  • Mario Chalmers: Signs G League contract

Chalmers signed a G League contract with the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Friday, Sam Amico of FortyEightMinutes.com reports. Chalmers recently signed a 10-day contract with the Heat, but he went unused off Miami's bench during his brief time with the team and hasn't made an NBA appearance since the 2017-18 season. He'll attempt to work his way back onto an NBA roster by playing in the G League.

  • Mario Chalmers: Reaches free agency

The Heat don't plan to re-sign Chalmers, whose 10-day contract expired Sunday, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. As anticipated, Chalmers' second stint with the Heat proved to be short-lived, as Miami didn't have a need for guard depth with several players expected to return from the COVID-19 health and safety protocols prior to the team's next game Wednesday in Atlanta. Chalmers went unused off the Miami bench during his brief time with the team and hasn't made an appearance at the NBA level since the 2017-18 season.

Chalmers is signing with the G League's Grand Rapids Gold and will play in the upcoming G League showcase Dec. 19-22, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The 35-year-old last saw NBA minutes during the 2017-18 season with the Grizzlies, where he averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 21.5 minutes. Since then, he's been playing overseas. Most recently, he's been in Greece averaging 9.8 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 21.8 minutes. • Grizzlies' Mario Chalmers: Swipes four steals in Monday's loss

Chalmers supplied eight points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 6-7 FT), four rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks in 14 minutes during Monday's 113-94 loss to the Timberwolves. Chalmers saw fewer minutes than any other Grizzly who took the floor. However, he was still able to make his presence felt in the box score, compiling counting stats galore. While Tyreke Evans (personal) and Andrew Harrison (wrist) have joined Mike Conley (heel) on the sidelines, Chalmers doesn't figure to see a bunch of minutes during Wednesday's season finale versus the Thunder.

  • Grizzlies' Mario Chalmers: Solid scoring total off bench Friday

Chalmers netted 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-3 FT) and added three assists across 18 minutes in Friday's 94-93 loss to the Kings. Chalmers' scoring total led the bench in his first game action since March 28. The veteran had seen DNP-CDs in each of the prior three contests, so Friday's production was a welcome late-season sight. Chalmers has some value as a DFS punt play over the last three games if both Tyreke Evans (personal) and Andrew Harrison (wrist) remain out, albeit a risky one due to his somewhat erratic usage lately.

  • Grizzlies' Mario Chalmers: Shifting back to bench role

Chalmers will return to a bench role for Friday's matchup with the Jazz. With both Tyreke Evans (personal) and Andrew Harrison (wrist) out Wednesday against the Trail Blazers, Chalmers was called upon to start, but posted relatively pedestrian numbers of eight points, four rebounds and two assists across 20 minutes. Instead, it was Kobi Simmons (28 minutes) that saw the biggest increase in his workload and he'll now move into the starting five over Chalmers on Friday. While both players should see elevated roles with Evans and Harrison still out, it appears the Grizzlies prefer to get the younger Simmons more reps.

  • Grizzlies' Mario Chalmers: Starting at point guard Wednesday

Chalmers will start at point guard for Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers. The Grizzlies are set to be without both Tyreke Evans (personal) and Andrew Harrison (wrist, shoulder), so they'll turn to Chalmers to pick up the spot start at point guard. After logging minutes in the mid-teens over the last three contests, Chalmers should see a fairly significant uptick in playing time, which results in a temporary boost in fantasy value as well. He could have some viability as a cheap punt-play option for Wednesday's slate, though as soon as Harrison or Evans returns, Chalmers should head back to the bench.
