  • Wizards' Anthony Davis: Not expected to return in 2025-26

Davis (hand/groin) is expected to sit out the remainder of the 2025-26 season, Chris Haynes of NBA TV reports. Davis was traded from Dallas to Washington on Wednesday as the Wizards look to accelerate their rebuild. The star big man hasn't played since Jan. 8 due to ligament damage in his left hand and was already expected to miss an extended period. While the hand injury reportedly won't require surgery, he isn't expected to suit up for Washington until the 2026-27 campaign, as the club gives him ample time to recover. The veteran center also missed time this season with a groin injury and a calf strain. He'll aim to be fully healthy by the start of next season and help the Wizards reach the postseason alongside Trae Young (knee/quadriceps), who holds a player option for 2026-27. Davis has a player option for 2027-28 and is eligible to sign a contract extension in August. He appeared in just 20 regular-season games for the Mavericks prior to the trade, during which he averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals in 31.3 minutes per contest.

  • Wizards' Anthony Davis: Traded to Washington

Davis (finger) was traded from Dallas to Washington on Wednesday, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell (illness) and Dante Exum (knee) were also sent to Washington, with Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham and Marvin Bagley going to Dallas along with two first-round picks and three second-round picks. After months of speculation, the Mavericks will pivot away from Davis and will go all-in on a rebuild. Davis is extension eligible, and given the draft capital moved by the Wizards, it seems likely the franchise is looking to keep him for the long term. Plus, this will give Trae Young (knee) another partner in the pick-and-roll game. As for the immediate fantasy impact, Davis is still sidelined by a finger injury and is not expected to be re-evaluated until early March, and the Wizards will almost certainly be out of the playoff hunt by then.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Won't have surgery, out six weeks

A second opinion revealed Davis (finger) won't require surgery, and he'll be re-evaluated in six weeks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Early indications were that Davis would go under the knife and miss multiple months. However, a second opinion was enough to convince Davis to rehab without a procedure. Still, he'll be sidelined for at least six weeks. meaning he likely won't be back until at least early March. Daniel Gafford, Dwight Powell and Moussa Cisse will handle center duties while Davis is sidelined.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Likely to miss several months

Davis is likely to undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand and miss several months, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Davis was already set to be out for an extended period of time, and it now sounds like he's facing a multi-month absence. Charania notes that the Mavericks could still move the star big man to a playoff contender ahead of the trade deadline, which could impact his return timetable down the stretch. With Davis sidelined for the foreseeable future, Daniel Gafford (ankle) is lined up as Dallas' top center when available.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Could miss months

Davis sustained ligament damage in his left hand and could miss a "number of months," ESPN's Shams Charania reports. This is a brutal blow for Davis and for Dallas, as he was expected to be a prime trade deadline target. But now, depending on a second opinion and a possible need for surgery, Davis may be sidelined through the Feb. 5 trade deadline. More clarity on a timetable will likely be known in the coming days, but Davis' fantasy managers should be bracing for a lengthy absence. His absence will open up plenty of minutes in Dallas, and players such as P.J. Washington (ankle), Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson and Caleb Martin will be candidates to soak up some of them.

The severity of Davis' injury is not yet known after he checked out with 2:08 remaining in the fourth quarter in obvious pain. He made most of his presence felt defensively with five blocked shots, which is a season high and his most in a game since April 11. Davis (thigh) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Thursday's game against the 76ers. The All-Star big man missed Dallas' last two games due to right adductor soreness, but Davis' absence from the injury report puts him on track to return Thursday. Per Ron Harrod Jr. of DLLS Sports, Davis is expected to play about 30-34 minutes, and his return means fewer minutes will be available for Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell. Across the four games prior to his most recent injury, Davis averaged 26.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals over 35.5 minutes per game.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Spotted at shootaround

Davis (adductor) was present for Monday's morning shootaround, per Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News. Davis' presence perhaps puts him on the right side of the questionable tag for Monday's game against Portland with right adductor soreness. If the star big man is available, Daniel Gafford would almost certainly revert back to the bench.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Questionable for Monday

Davis (adductor) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against Portland. Davis has already missed one game due to a right adductor injury he sustained Christmas Day, and he's at risk of missing another contest. If Davis can't play Monday, Daniel Gafford would likely draw another start at center, while Dwight Powell could see some burn off the bench.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported Friday that the star big man is likely to miss a few games, though Davis has yet to be ruled out and is dealing with what the team is now calling right adductor soreness. If he ends up being sidelined, Daniel Gafford and Caleb Martin could see increased minutes in the frontcourt, while Dwight Powell and Moussa Cisse are candidates to enter the rotation.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Out with minor groin strain

Davis (groin) is expected to miss a few games, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Davis sustained a minor groin strain in Thursday's loss to the Warriors, and he'll likely need to sit out for around a week or so. With the superstar big man sidelined, fantasy managers can expect Daniel Gafford to see an expanded role at center while Dwight Powell handles the backup role.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Exits Thursday with groin injury

Davis won't return to Thursday's game against the Warriors due to right groin spasms. He posted three points (1-4 FG, 1-4 FT), three rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 11 minutes prior to departing. Davis exited with 8:50 left in the second quarter after he appeared to suffer the injury while running up the court in transition. After being evaluated at halftime, Davis was ruled out for the rest of the game at the beginning of the second half. The big man will likely be sent in for further testing as the Mavericks look to determine the extent of his injury, so for the time being, his status for the team's next game Saturday in Sacramento is in question.
