  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Checks out well after practice

Tatum (Achilles) said that he was "feeling good" after taking part in practice with the G League's Maine Celtics on Tuesday, but he remained non-committal about returning to action during the 2025-26 season, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports. "[It's been] 39 weeks [since Achilles surgery], so it's been a long journey," Tatum said. "[Practicing] was the next step. Doesn't mean that I'm coming back [this season] or I'm not. It's just following the plan." Though Tatum achieved a major milestone in his recovery process Tuesday by taking part in 5-on-5 scrimmaging for the first time since tearing his right Achilles tendon May 12, both he and the Celtics aren't yet willing to offer up a timeline for him to resume playing in games. Instead, Tatum will continue working to regain conditioning over the next few weeks while gradually increasing the intensity of his on-court workload, and the Celtics will see how he responds before mapping out a potential return date. Tatum still looks to be a worthwhile player to stash in deeper formats or in shallower leagues with multiple injured-list slots, but fantasy managers should keep in mind that if he returns, the 27-year-old forward will likely be operating with a strict minutes limit for at least his first handful of games.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Practicing with G League club

The Celtics announced that Tatum (Achilles) will be assigned to the G League's Maine Celtics to take part in certain portions of the team's practice Monday. Tatum had recently been cleared for 5-on-5 scrimmage work against the team's coaching staff, so his assignment to the G League for practice is another step in the right direction for the star forward, who has been out all season while recovering from May 13 surgery to address torn right Achilles tendon. Following Monday's practice, Tatum will be recalled to Boston, where he'll continue his rehab. Tatum is without a clear timeline to make his 2025-26 debut, but his involvement in practice would seem to be a firm indication that the Celtics are optimistic he'll be able to play at some point this season.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Taking part in 5-on-5 work

Tatum (Achilles) has progressed to taking part in controlled 5-on-5 scrimmages against the Celtics' coaching staff, Shams Charania reported Sunday on ESPN's "NBA Countdown." While Tatum remains without a timeline to make his 2025-26 debut after undergoing surgery May 13 to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon, he's continuing to reach new milestones in his rehab process and thus far appears to have avoided any major setbacks. Per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com, Tatum said Jan. 29 that he hasn't decided whether he'll attempt to play at any point this season, and if he does make a late-season return, the Celtics aren't expected to clear him until he's 100 percent confident in his surgically repaired Achilles. The rehab and recovery process for Achilles surgeries is typically around 9-to-12 months, with Wesley Matthews and Kobe Bryant being the lone past examples of NBA players who have returned from the injury in eight months or fewer.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Boston optimistic about return

The Celtics have not ruled Tatum (Achilles) out for the 2025-26 season, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. Charania adds that the Celtics are "cautiously optimistic" about Tatum returning later in the season. Tatum himself is on record saying he isn't ruling out a return, and by all accounts, his rehab is going swimmingly. "Clearly Jayson Tatum has a goal in his mind that he wants to play," Charania said. "Whether he can get there by the time we're in February, March or April, we'll see." How Boston performs this season is likely to factor into Tatum's decision as well, making this an intriguing storyline to watch.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Won't rule out returning in 2025-26

Tatum (Achilles) said Tuesday that he's not ruling out a return in 2025-26, Zack Cox of the Boston Herald reports. "I haven't said I'm not playing this season," Tatum said. "The most important thing is a full recovery, not rushing at all. But also, I don't go to rehab six days a week for nothing." Tatum ruptured his Achilles on May 12 and underwent surgery the following day, and while he has a target date in his mind, he's not ready to reveal it. Officially, the Celtics haven't placed a timetable on Tatum, and it will ultimately come down to the medical staff as to whether or not he'll be given the green light.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Undergoes surgery for Achilles tear

Tatum will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. The Celtics will be without Tatum for the rest of these NBA playoffs, and it's a strong possibility he misses all of next season as well. The superstar forward went down with the injury during Game 4 against the Knicks, with the team fearing the worst. The defending NBA champions will have to press on without their best player while facing a 3-1 series deficit heading into Game 5.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Set for MRI on Tuesday

Tatum didn't return to Monday's 121-113 loss to the Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals due to an apparent right lower-leg injury and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports. Tatum suffered a non-contact injury while pursuing a loose ball and was helped off the court with 2:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. The superstar forward was unable to put any weight on his right leg and required a wheelchair to get to the Boston locker room. He finished the game with 42 points (16-28 FG, 7-16 3Pt, 3-3 FT), eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks across 40 minutes. The Celtics are expected to provide an update on Tatum's status for Wednesday's win-or-go-home Game 5 at some point Tuesday.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Comes close to triple-double

Tatum ended with 22 points (8-20 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals over 40 minutes during Saturday's 115-93 win over the Knicks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Payton Pritchard might have led the Celtics in scoring, but there's no question Tatum made a huge impact in more ways than just putting up points. He finished just one rebound and three assists away from a triple-double. Furthermore, Tatum also experienced an uptick in his shooting numbers. He made only 28.6 percent of his field goals over the first two games of the series, but that number increased to 40 percent in this Game 3 win.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Another rough night Wednesday

Tatum produced 13 points (5-19 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists, one block and three steals in 42 minutes during Wednesday's 91-90 loss to the Knicks in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Tatum was unable to get the job done, delivering a modest performance as the Celtics blew a 20-point lead against the Knicks. He had a chance to seal the victory but appeared to mismanage the clock, forcing up a questionable shot as opposed to simply attacking the basket when given the opportunity. Now trailing 2-0 in the series, Boston will need to regroup ahead of Saturday's Game 3.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Struggles from field in Game 1 loss

Tatum produced 23 points (7-23 FG, 4-15 3Pt, 5-7 FT), 16 rebounds, six assists, one block and two steals over 44 minutes during Monday's 108-105 overtime loss to the Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Tatum struggled to find his rhythm, especially from the perimeter, ultimately ending with a Game 1 loss. Despite leading for the majority of the game, the Celtics came up short, affording New York the momentum heading into Game 2. Tatum will almost certainly come out with aggression when the two teams face off again Wednesday.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Records double-double in Game 5 win

Tatum had 35 points (10-16 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 11-11 FT), eight rebounds, 10 assists and one steal in 34 minutes during Tuesday's 120-89 victory over the Magic in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Tatum is back in form after a slow start in the first round, and he logged a second consecutive double-double via his second-highest assist total of the season. Notably, Tatum has taken 37 shots at the charity stripe during the series against Orlando, and he's hit 100 percent of them. The wrist injury seems to be behind him, and the superstar should continue to generate prolific totals as the Celtics advance to the quarterfinals.

Tatum hit the ground running, leading all scorers with 37 points as Boston drew to within one win of clinching its first-round series against Orlando. Despite continuing to deal with a wrist injury, Tatum has been able to lead from the front, scoring 36 and 37 points in his two games since missing Game 2. The series will now shift back to Boston, where the Celtics will look to wrap things in Game 5 on Tuesday.

Tatum returned to action after missing the previous game due to a wrist injury, leading all scorers with 36 points. Despite his heroics, the Celtics fell short, affording the Magic a vital Game 3 victory. While it is likely Tatum will have to work through the pain moving forward, expect to see him in the lineup when the two teams meet again Sunday.

Tatum was upgraded to questionable earlier Friday, and in the end, the star forward will give it a go after missing Game 2 of the series. Even if he's not 100 percent healthy, Tatum should be the Celtics' go-to option on offense. He averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game across 72 regular-season appearances.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Not expected to play in Game 2

Tatum (wrist) is doubtful for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals Wednesday against the Magic, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports. Tatum took a fall in Sunday's Game 1 win over Orlando, which has rendered him day-to-day with a right wrist injury. It appears likely that he'll need to sit out at least one game due to the issue. If the superstar forward is ultimately ruled out as expected, his next chance to return to the floor would come Friday for Game 3 when the series shifts to Orlando. The Celtics are set to lean on Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis as their top scoring options Wednesday, and either Sam Hauser or Al Horford is in line to jump into Boston's starting lineup.

In 40 minutes in the series opener, the superstar forward finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
