Jones started Tuesday versus Texas and came up just two assists shy of his second triple-double of the 2022-23 campaign. The 27-year-old failed to convert any of his three free-throw tries, while he also committed a game-high six personal fouls, so there's certainly room for Jones to improve despite the solid stat line.

Jones easily posted his best outing of the 2022-23 campaign Tuesday against Birmingham, earning his first triple-double of the year. He also provided season highs with 19 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals across 33 minutes. Not much more could have been asked of the 27-year-old, who shot 80 percent from the floor and committed zero turnovers. Jones can only hope to replicate a performance like this one in future contests.

Jones, who signed a 10-day contract with the Lakers in mid-December, averaged 6.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in the G League for the Herd this season. He appeared in two games during his stint in the NBA, totaling four points, three rebounds and one steal in 15 minutes. The 6-foot-5 forward also spent time in the Lakers' organization during the 2018-19 campaign. During that stretch, he appeared in six games and averaged 4.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals across 23.8 minutes.

Unless Jones gets picked back up by another NBA team within the next few days, he'll likely head back to the G League's Wisconsin Herd, with whom he played before signing with the Lakers on Dec. 20. He appeared in two games during his time with the Lakers, averaging 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.5 minutes.

Los Angeles currently has six players in the COVID-19 health and safety protocols and another two players out with long-term injuries, so Jones will be joining the Lakers on a hardship exemption. He had been suiting up this season with the G League's Wisconsin Herd, averaging 8.3 boards across 25.7 minutes per game. The New Mexico State product hasn't played in the NBA since he appeared in six contests for the Lakers in 2018-19.
