Rockets' Alperen Sengun: Working on shot ahead of 2026-27 season
Sengun has been working with shooting coach Chip Engelland on his free throws and three-point shot, and the big man wants to make corner threes a bigger part of his game, Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Sengun is coming off another impressive year, averaging 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 33.3 minutes per game across 72 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. However, the star center shot just 69.1 percent from the charity stripe and 30.5 percent from downtown. He's been focused on improving in those areas this offseason, and an uptick in efficiency would be a significant step toward becoming a more well-rounded player.

Rockets' Alperen Sengun: Primed for another big year
Sengun continued his ascent as one of the league's premier offensive centers during the 2025-26 campaign, serving as Houston's primary facilitator in the frontcourt while forming an elite partnership with Kevin Durant.
Sengun's combination of interior scoring, rebounding and passing remained the foundation of the Rockets' halfcourt offense throughout the regular season. With Houston returning most of its rotation, Sengun's role should remain virtually unchanged entering 2026-27.

Sengun supplied 17 points (5-12 FG, 7-10 FT), 11 rebounds, two blocks and one assist across 38 minutes in Friday's 98-78 loss to the Lakers in Game 6 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Sengun struggled with efficiency, though that proved to be a common theme for the Rockets in their season-ending loss. The star big man still finished second on the team in scoring and led the club in rebounds en route to his third double-double of the series. He earned his second career All-Star nod in 2025-26, finishing the regular season with averages of 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 33.3 minutes per tilt across 72 appearances.

Sengun supplied 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, eight assists, two steals and one block across 43 minutes in Wednesday's 99-93 win over the Lakers in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Sengun wasn't very aggressive hunting his shot, though he delivered an efficient performance and was one of five Rockets players to score in double figures. The star big man also led the team in rebounds and dished out a game- and series-best eight assists. Additionally, he chipped in at least three combined steals-plus-blocks for the third time in the series. Sengun produced 19 points (6-12 FG, 7-13 FT), six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 33 minutes during Sunday's 115-96 win over the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
The Rockets were able to pull one game back in this series to stay alive after getting a balanced attack from all five starters in the absence of Kevin Durant (ankle). Through four games, Sengun holds averages of 22.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.3 blocks and 2.3 steals in 37.8 minutes per contest.
