  • Trail Blazers' Bryce McGowens: Adds 20 points off bench

McGowens recorded 20 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 8-8 FT), two rebounds and two assists over 21 minutes during Monday's 97-95 Summer League win over the 76ers. McGowens put up a team-high 20 points and managed to get to the charity stripe with ease. The Nebraska product put pen to paper on a two-way contract Thursday and is seemingly eager to prove that he can handle rotation minutes, though he'll need to further distinguish himself amongst a crowded backcourt. Shaedon Sharpe (abdomen), Kris Murray, Rayan Rupert and Justin Minaya are also in the mix to secure backup guard minutes behind Anfernee Simons (knee).

  • Trail Blazers' Bryce McGowens: Headed to Portland

McGowens agreed to a two-way contract with the Trail Blazers on Thursday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. McGowens spent the first two seasons of his career with the Hornets, but he was let go by Charlotte over the weekend. After performing well late in the California Classic Summer League for the Hornets, he will land a deal with the Trail Blazers that will allow him to move easily between the G League and parent club.

  • Hornets' Bryce McGowens: Deployed in garbage time Monday

McGowens (knee) recorded two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and no other statistics over three minutes Monday in the Hornets' 115-92 loss to the Cavaliers. McGowens was cleared to play after a seven-game absence due to a right knee strain, but he didn't capture a spot in the rotation in his return. Aside from JT Thor playing the final 1:50 of the second quarter, Hornets head coach Steve Clifford ran a tight eight-man rotation while the contest was competitive, as McGowens and the team's other three deep reserves (Thor, Nick Smith and Amari Bailey) all checked into the game with 3:06 remaining and Charlotte trailing by 21 points. All of LaMelo Ball (ankle), Seth Curry (ankle) and Cody Martin (ankle) were sidelined Monday, but it may take the Hornets to be down another guard before McGowens picks up meaningful playing time.

  • Hornets' Bryce McGowens: Posts strong numbers off bench

McGowens ended with 15 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds and one steal over 30 minutes during Friday's 120-84 loss to the Bucks. The Hornets trailed by 28 points at halftime and never made a serious run in the second half, which helps explain why McGowens reached 30 minutes for the first time since mid-December. The second-year pro made the most of the opportunity, matching his season-high marks with 15 points and five boards. McGowens doesn't usually get enough minutes to be a viable fantasy asset, though he's been getting a longer look of late and has scored in double digits in four of his past five games.
