Garrett's cut comes as part of a roster consolidation alongside Charlotte's peripheral role in facilitating the Karl-Anthony Towns trade with New York and Minnesota. The 25-year-old was on a training camp contract and will be rewarded financially if he opts to stick with Charlotte's G League affiliate.

Hornets' Marcus Garrett: Signs deal with Charlotte
Garrett and the Hornets agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract Wednesday, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Garrett will join the Hornets for training camp and is likely going to end up playing for the G League's Greensboro Swarm. Since graduating from Kansas in 2021, Garrett has spent most of his time in the G League, but he did make 12 NBA appearances for the Heat on a two-way contract as a rookie.

Garrett suffered a fractured wrist in early October and was set to miss at least four weeks due to the injury and forcing him to miss the Skyforce's season opener. While Garrett is approaching the four-week mark, there has been no updates on his status. His next opportunity to take the floor will come on Sunday in a rematch with the Wolves.

Garrett was recently cleared to rejoin the Heat after a stint in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, but his most recent absence in Saturday's loss to the 76ers was the result of a right wrist sprain. With the Heat determining that he'll require surgery to address the injury and be shut down indefinitely, the team elect to cut him loose to free up its remaining two-way slot. The Heat will have Kyle Guy, who was playing on a second 10-day deal, join Caleb Martin as a two-way player.
