  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Undergoes successful surgery

The 76ers announced Tuesday that McCain underwent successful surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear and remains out indefinitely, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports. McCain suffered his left meniscus tear against Indiana and is set for extended absence. While Philadelphia has yet to rule the rookie guard out for the rest of the season, Eric Gordon will likely continue to receive increased playing time.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Suffers meniscus tear

The 76ers announced Saturday that following Friday's game versus the Pacers, an MRI revealed a lateral meniscus tear in McCain's left knee. The rookie guard will undergo surgery and is out indefinitely, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports. McCain's meniscus is a major blow to Philadelphia, as the team's laundry list of injuries has resulted in a 7-16 record. McCain had been the Rookie of the Year frontrunner, as he was averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 25.7 minutes on 46.0/38.3/87.5 shooting splits across his first 23 appearances. While the 20-year-old guard hasn't been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign yet, he is set to miss a significant period. Reggie Jackson and Kyle Lowry (back) are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Starts second half Friday

McCain (concussion) finished with five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt), one rebound and three assists over 29 minutes during Friday's 121-107 loss to the Pacers. McCain was able to return to Friday's contest after being evaluated for a concussion, and while his output in the box score was muted, it's worth noting he started the second half for the injured Joel Embiid (face). The rookie first-rounder has shined when given the chance to be a member of the first unit this season, averaging 23.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 3.6 three-pointers in 36.6 minutes per game over eight appearances as a starter. If Embiid can't play in Monday's game against Charlotte, McCain would be a candidate to join the starting lineup and likely offer more fantasy upside if tasked with an enhanced role.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Back to bench role Friday

McCain is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Magic, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports. McCain will move back to a bench role with the return of Paul George to the starting unit. The rookie out of Duke is averaging 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 three-pointers made when coming off the bench this season.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Back in first unit

McCain will start Wednesday's game against the Magic. McCain started seven straight games before returning to the second unit for Philadelphia's previous pair of contests. He'll return to the starting five Wednesday while Paul George (rest) and Joel Embiid (knee) are sidelined. McCain averaged 23.7 points, 4.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals across those seven starts.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Lacks efficiency in loss to HOU

McCain registered 15 points (6-19 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist and one steal over 41 minutes during Wednesday's 122-115 overtime loss to Houston. McCain has cooled off a bit after putting up impressive numbers over the last two weeks, but that kind of regression was slightly expected since he's a rookie who's still getting used to the NBA. The former Duke standout should continue to have a significant role in the 76ers offense due to Paul George (knee) and Joel Embiid (knee) being sidelined. McCain has averaged 23.7 points per game since being promoted to the starting lineup seven games ago.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Struggles with shot Sunday

McCain provided 18 points (3-15 FG, 2-11 3Pt, 10-12 FT) and four assists across 28 minutes during Sunday's 125-99 loss to the Clippers. McCain was coming off five straight games in which he'd scored at least 20 points, but the rookie saw his streak snapped in this one after a woeful shooting performance. That was bound to happen sooner rather than later, but McCain should remain one of the 76ers' go-to players on offense, especially as long as Paul George and Joel Embiid remain sidelined due to their respective knee injuries.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Strong from three in 30-point game

McCain posted 30 points (11-20 FG, 6-11 3Pt, 2-3 FT), five rebounds, three assists and two steals over 39 minutes during Friday's 113-98 win over the Nets. McCain provided Philadelphia with a nice lift offensively and from deep Friday, leading all 76ers players in threes made and scoring. McCain matched a season high in threes made, and he has now connected on at least five threes in two straight outings. He has surpassed the 30-point mark in two contests, both of which have taken place over his last five appearances.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Extends scoring streak Wednesday

McCain had 20 points (6-13 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), two rebounds and five assists over 41 minutes during Wednesday's 117-111 loss to Memphis. McCain's success as a rookie has been the lone bright spot for a reeling 76ers team, and the former Duke star has scored at least 20 points in six games in a row. He's firmly entrenched as a reliable scoring weapon just one month into the regular season, and McCain could be in line for an uptick in his usage rate if Paul George (knee) is forced to miss time. McCain is averaging 25.8 points per game since being promoted to the starting lineup four games ago.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Leading scorer in Monday's loss

McCain accumulated 20 points (8-16 FG, 4-9 3Pt), four rebounds, four assists and two steals in 37 minutes during Monday's 106-89 loss to the Heat. The rookie guard led the Sixers in scoring on the night, even with Joel Embiid in the lineup for only the third time this season. McCain is red hot right now, scoring 20-plus points in five straight games while averaging 26.6 points, 4.4 assists, 4.4 threes, 2.6 boards and 0.8 steals in 33.4 minutes a contest, but his usage will take a hit once Tyrese Maxey (hamstring) is ready to return. McCain, the 16th overall pick in the 2024 Draft, has likely done enough to keep his spot in the starting five, however.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Earns first career start

McCain is part of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers. McCain has received at least 30 minutes in three straight games and averaged 22.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists on 45.1 percent shooting from the field. With Paul George (knee) sidelined Wednesday, the 76ers will reward McCain's recent success and give him a spot in the first unit. He'll slot in alongside Kyle Lowry in the backcourt.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Stays hot in career-best showcase

McCain totaled 27 points (10-18 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds and two assists across 31 minutes during Sunday's 107-105 overtime victory over the Hornets. McCain continued his recent hot stretch and strong start to his rookie campaign on Sunday by posting his best outing of his young career. McCain led all Philadelphia players in scoring and threes made, concluding with his first 20-point game of the year and three points shy of the 30-point mark. McCain has tallied at least 18 points in three outings this season, including in two straight games. He has also connected on at least three threes in two consecutive contests.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Cleared to play Wednesday

McCain (chest) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's game versus the Bucks. McCain is set to suit up for Philadelphia's regular-season opener despite suffering a pulmonary contusion during the preseason. The rookie guard will likely compete for bench minutes in the team's backcourt rotation.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Won't play in preseason finale

The 76ers announced Thursday that McCain has been diagnosed with a pulmonary contusion and has not displayed symptoms consistent with a concussion. The rookie guard will be out for Friday's preseason game against the Magic and will be evaluated daily, Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.com reports. While McCain will be sidelined for Philadelphia's preseason finale, it appears he has avoided a concussion. The rookie guard's next chance to suit up is the team's regular-season opener against Milwaukee on Oct. 23. McCain is expected to compete for bench minutes in the 76er's backcourt this season.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Released from hospital

The 76ers announced Thursday that McCain (bruised lungs) was discharged from the hospital earlier this morning and is at home resting. He will be further evaluated later Thursday and an update will be provided as appropriate, Austin Krell of USA Today reports. McCain was sent to the hospital after bruising his lungs during Wednesday's preseason game against the Nets. While it is good news to hear that the rookie guard has been released, the severity of his injury is unclear. McCain's next chance to suit up is Friday's preseason matchup with Orlando.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Headed to locker room

McCain went back to the locker room after taking a hard fall during Wednesday's preseason game against the Nets, Austin Krell of USA Today reports. The specifics of McCain's injury are unknown, but part of the medical staff's evaluation is for a concussion, per Austin Krell of USA Today. It wouldn't be surprising to see the rookie held out as a precaution. After spending some time on the floor, McCain was able to walk off the hardwood and into the locker room with minimal help, which is encouraging. While he's out, Jeff Dowtin and Ricky Council could see more minutes.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Returns to second unit

McCain won't start Monday's preseason game against the Hawks. McCain shined during a spot start Saturday, posting 20 points (9-21 FG) in 32 minutes. However, with Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre and Paul George back in action, the rookie will return to a reserve role.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Leads all scorers Saturday

McCain finished with 20 points (9-21 FG, 1-8 3PT, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, three assists and three steals in 32 minutes during Saturday's 139-89 preseason loss to the Celtics. On a night when the 76ers rested their entire starting unit, McCain stood tall, leading all scorers with 20 points. The rookie has impressed since arriving in Philadelphia, staking his claim to be a part of the rotation come Opening Night. However, as well as he has played, it's hard to see him playing meaningful minutes on a regular basis. He has some appeal in deeper formats, but those in standard leagues can safely look elsewhere.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Strong preseason debut

McCain posted 15 points (5-14 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds and three assists across 28 minutes off the bench in Monday's 139-84 preseason win over the NBL Breakers. McCain led the 76ers in playing time by a wide margin, and there's no question the Duke product made his presence felt on both ends of the court. As good as he's looked both in the Summer League and preseason, McCain will likely struggle to crack the rotation for a win-now Sixers roster, meaning his fantasy appeal won't be very high in most formats outside of dynasty leagues -- regardless of how productive and efficient he looks in the remaining preseason games.

  • 76ers' Jared McCain: Puts up 15 points in victory

McCain notched 15 points (6-15 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 3-5 FT), six rebounds, three assists and two steals across 27 minutes in Monday's 102-92 win over the Thunder in the Salt Lake City Summer League. McCain had a decent outing in the club's first Summer League game as he stuffed the stat sheet. The 20-year-old did struggle from three; however, he shot 41.4 percent from deep at Duke, so one Summer League game should not be a concern. McCain spent one season playing college hoops, during which he averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals.
