Johnson (recently traded) will be available for Saturday's game against the Spurs.
Just because Johnson is available, that doesn't mean he will actually see the floor. The second-year guard was unable to carve out a role in Washington, and he's facing an uphill battle for playing time in Dallas too.

Mavericks' AJ Johnson: Traded to Mavericks
Rotowire
Johnson is being sent to the Mavericks on Wednesday as part of the Anthony Davis (finger) deal, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Khris Middleton, Malaki Branham and Marvin Bagley will join Johnson in Dallas, while Davis, D'Angelo Russell (illness), Jaden Hardy and Dante Exum (knee) move to Washington. The Mavericks also received two first-round picks and three second-round picks.
Johnson will add some depth to Dallas' backcourt, where he'll compete for minutes with the likes of Branham, Max Christie, Caleb Martin and Klay Thompson. Johnson has shown some flashes this season, but it's unclear how he'll factor into Jason Kidd's rotation, so managers in most leagues can watch this situation develop from the waiver wire. Johnson can be considered doubtful for Thursday's game against the Spurs while the trade finalizes.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Steps up in win
Rotowire
Johnson supplied 17 points (7-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one rebound, four assists and one steal in 27 minutes during Sunday's 116-112 victory over Sacramento.
Johnson saw his first action since Jan. 16 and didn't disappoint on the offensive end. He set a new season high by dropping 17 points, and he did so in an efficient manner. Johnson has yet to see this type of usage on a nightly basis, so while it's nice to see him have a breakout game, he's yet to carve out a consistent role in the team's rotation to this point.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Removed from rotation Saturday
Rotowire
Johnson (coach's decision) went unused off the bench in Saturday's 121-115 loss to the Nuggets.
Prior to Saturday, Johnson had appeared in 10 straight games for the Wizards, though he averaged just 11.0 minutes per contest while shooting 30.4 percent from the field over that stretch. Even though the Wizards were without Bilal Coulibaly (back) in the second leg of the back-to-back set, head coach Brian Keefe opted to keep both Johnson and Malaki Branham on the bench throughout the day while two-way player Jamir Watkins (21 minutes), Justin Champagnie (26 minutes) and Will Riley (16 minutes) operated as the backup wings/forwards in Washington's nine-man rotation. Keefe could opt to shake up the second unit in Monday's game against the Clippers, but Johnson's chances of regaining a role won't improve if Coulibaly is cleared to play in that contest.

Johnson notched three points (1-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt), one assist and one steal across 14 minutes during Friday's 119-99 win over Brooklyn.
Johnson played at least 14 minutes for the second straight game, although he offered very little in terms of tangible production. On the whole, Johnson has been a non-factor this season, averaging just 1.1 points in 5.2 minutes per game.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Recalled to NBA
Rotowire
Washington recalled Johnson from the G League's Capital City Go-Go on Monday.
Johnson has seen very limited run with the Wizards, but he's a young and polarizing prospect that Washington wants to develop. He will likely split time between the two clubs for the rest of the season.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Recalled to NBA
Rotowire
Washington recalled Johnson from the G League's Capital City Go-Go on Wednesday.
This move was done following Tuesday's 120-110 loss to the Delaware Blue Coats, where Johnson put up 23 points (7-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), two rebounds, an assist and a steal across 32 minutes before fouling out. Johnson will now return to the Wizards, where he has appeared in just 10 games so far this season.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Returned to G League
Rotowire
Johnson was assigned to the G League's Capital City Go-Go on Saturday.
Johnson continues to bounce between the NBA club and the G League, as he was just recalled Friday. He should see the majority of his playing time for the Go-Go, where he's scored in double figures in all three of his appearances so far this season.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Recalled from G League
Rotowire
The Wizards recalled Johnson from the G League's Capital City Go-Go on Friday.
Johnson is joining a banged-up Washington team as emergency depth ahead of Friday's game against the Cavaliers. The 2024 first-rounder is averaging just 4.5 minutes per game over 10 appearances in the NBA this year, so he'll be a candidate to head back to the G League following Friday's action.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Rare appearance Friday
Rotowire
Johnson recorded zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one rebound across six minutes during Friday's 119-86 loss to the Pacers.
Johnson appeared for the first time in the past five games, bringing his total number of garbage time appearances to nine. Despite the fact that Washington clearly has nothing to play for, it doesn't appear as though Johnson is high on the priority list. He is a name to watch as the season progresses, but for now, he can be safely ignored in all redraft fantasy formats.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Won't play Saturday
Rotowire
Johnson (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Chicago.
Johnson will miss a second consecutive game due to a right ankle contusion, but he'll have extra time to recover ahead of Washington's next contest Tuesday against Atlanta. The second-year guard has averaged just 4.8 minutes per game across eight appearances off the bench, so his absence won't impact the Wizards' backcourt rotation too much.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Rookie option exercised
Rotowire
Johnson's rookie option was exercised by the Wizards for the 2026-27 season Thursday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
While Johnson and Cam Whitmore were acquired by the Wizards via trade, the front office has grouped them along with young players Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George to be their stars of the future. Johnson has also yet to play in a game this season for longer than four minutes, but this move by the front office instills confidence that they want him on the roster for the long haul.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Absent from Thursday's exhibition
Rotowire
Johnson (leg) didn't play in Thursday's 119-98 preseason loss to the Pistons.
Johnson missed the final three matchups of the preseason while dealing with a bruised leg. Wizards' AJ Johnson: Idle to start preseason
Rotowire
Johnson (leg) didn't play in Sunday's 113-112 preseason loss to the Raptors.
Johnson was limited during training camp due to a leg bruise, and he didn't take the floor during the Wizards' preseason opener. After being traded to Washington from Milwaukee last season, Johnson saw extended run down the stretch of the regular season. However, he may have a more difficult path to consistent minutes during the 2025-26 season. His next chance to play will come Monday against New York.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Another big game in SL
Rotowire
Johnson generated 25 points (10-16 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-5 FT), with five rebounds and three assists over 35 minutes of Wednesday's 86-76 Summer League loss to Utah.
Johnson dropped 20 points Tuesday and followed up the performance with a Summer-League high in the category. Entering his second NBA season, Johnson will have a tough time cracking the Wizards' rotation, but at age 20, he has shown plenty of promise as a long-term project.

Johnson recorded 20 points (7-20 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one steal over 31 minutes in Tuesday's 74-58 Summer League loss to the 76ers.
Johnson struggled from beyond the arc but still led the Wizards with 20 points in Tuesday's loss. Acquired in February in the trade that sent Kyle Kuzma to the Bucks, the young guard will look to earn a spot in a crowded backcourt that now includes CJ McCollum, Tre Johnson and others.

Wizards' AJ Johnson: Sees 48 minutes in win
Rotowire
Johnson recorded 14 points (6-16 FG, 2-5 3Pt), one rebound, eight assists and one steal in 48 minutes during Sunday's 119-118 win over the Heat.
Since a mid-season trade with the Bucks, Johnson's career took off with the Wizards. In 22 regular-season appearances with Washington, Johnson produced averages of 9.1 points, 3.1 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 0.5 steals and 1.0 three-pointers with plenty of highlight-worthy dunks and energy plays. However, his efficiency wasn't great, as he shot 38.1 percent from the field and 24.7 percent from beyond the arc. Johnson could find himself in the Opening Night rotation in 2025-26 if he has a strong offseason.
