Atlanta recalled Newell from the G League's College Park Skyhawks on Thursday.
Newell hasn't appeared in any of the Hawks' last four games while seeing most of his playing time in the G League of late, but he could re-enter the rotation Thursday against the Rockets while Atlanta is without Onyeka Okongwu (dental fracture) and Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles). The Hawks will likely prioritize Mouhamed Gueye and Christian Koloko in the frontcourt ahead of Newell, though all three players could end up seeing major minutes Thursday if Jalen Johnson (calf) -- who is listed as questionable -- joins Okongwu and Porzingis on the sideline.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Available Tuesday
Rotowire
Newell (quadriceps) is available for Tuesday's game against the Lakers, per Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network.
The 20-year-old big man has logged single-digit minutes in three of his last four games, so he's unlikely to see enough playing time to warrant streaming consideration.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Iffy to face LAL
Rotowire
Newell (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Lakers.
Newell sustained a right quadriceps contusion in the second quarter of Sunday's win over the Warriors and was unable to return. Now, he's in jeopardy of missing Tuesday's contest. If the rookie first-rounder is ultimately ruled out, Mouhamed Gueye could see a slight bump in minutes.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Leaves early with quad injury
Rotowire
Newell was unable to return to Sunday's 124-111 win over the Warriors after exiting with 4:16 in the second quarter due to a right quadriceps contusion. He finished with one rebound and one block over four minutes while missing his lone three-point attempt.
Newell will likely undergo further tests as the Hawks look to determine the severity of his injury, but for the time being, the rookie first-round pick's availability for Tuesday's game against the Lakers is in jeopardy. He had been on the fringe of the Atlanta rotation heading into Sunday, and even if Newell doesn't need to miss further time, he could nonetheless see his minutes disappear if Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles) and Zaccharie Risacher (knee) are both available Tuesday.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Nine points in 11 minutes
Rotowire
Newell finished Friday's 110-87 victory over the Nuggets with nine points (4-5 FG, 1-2 3Pt), four rebounds and one block across 11 minutes.
Newell remained in the rotation, largely due to the fact that Atlanta was without a number of key pieces. While he has flashed some interesting upside this season, Newell's role is typically that of a depth piece. In 29 regular-season appearances, he has averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per contest.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Encouraging performance
Rotowire
Newell recorded seven points (3-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 0-2 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal over 16 minutes during Wednesday's 126-102 victory over the Timberwolves.
Newell continues to flash some upside on both ends of the floor, flirting with his first career double-double. It appears as though Newell is now ahead of Mouhamed Gueye in the rotation, having played at least 16 minutes in four of the past five games. While he isn't someone we need to consider in standard leagues, he is a name to watch, especially if the injuries befall the roster at some point.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Strong two-way effort
Rotowire
Newell racked up 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 3Pt), seven rebounds, one block and two steals over 21 minutes during Tuesday's 126-123 loss to the Bulls.
Newell once again flashed his upside, producing on both ends of the floor. With Mouhamed Gueye sidelined due to a shoulder injury, Newell shifted up in the rotation, logging at least 20 minutes for the first time in his past 16 appearances. Although he does appear to have the makings of a decent fantasy player, it is unlikely we will see any sort of ceiling this season, given the Hawks' depth.

Hawks' Asa Newell: Fails to score Tuesday
Rotowire
Newell finished with zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), one rebound, two assists and one steal over seven minutes during Tuesday's 132-113 loss to the Wizards.
Newell failed to score for the fourth straight game, continuing what has been an uneventful season. He has played double-digit minutes only twice, both as a result of multiple injuries and lopsided results. In 12 appearances, he has averaged just 3.9 points in 8.0 minutes per game.

Hawks' Asa Newell: First double-double of NBA career
Rotowire
Newell totaled 12 points (4-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and one assist over 25 minutes during the Hawks' 117-100 loss to the Thunder on Saturday.
Newell didn't play Opening Night against the Raptors and saw the floor for just four minutes during the Hawks' win over the Magic on Friday. However, the rookie first-rounder got extended run Saturday due to the absences of Zaccharie Risacher (ankle), Jalen Johnson (ankle) and Kristaps Porzingis (illness). Newell took advantage of the playing time and showed high energy on the floor as he hauled in seven of the Hawks' 15 offensive rebounds en route to the first double-double of his NBA career. The No. 23 overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft could carve out a consistent role for himself amidst a crowded Atlanta frontcourt if he continues to play well off the bench.
