Top Hornets News

  • Hornets' Cody Martin: Makes defensive impact

Martin recorded 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), five rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals in 29 minutes during Monday's 121-108 loss to Philadelphia.

Martin joined Nick Richards in scoring double-digit points off Charlotte's bench during Monday's loss. Martin also tallied at least one steal and one block for the 10th game this season.

  • Hornets' Josh Green: Season-high four steals Monday

Green logged 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 0-1 FT), two rebounds, one block and four steals over 30 minutes during Monday's 121-108 loss to the 76ers.

The fifth-year wing has begun making a consistent impact with his defense. While Monday's four pilfers were a season high, Green has recorded multiple steals in five of the last eight games, averaging 10.3 points, 2.8 boards, 1.9 steals, 1.8 threes and 1.6 assists over that stretch.

  • Hornets' Nick Richards: Big night off bench

Richards accumulated 19 points (7-9 FG, 5-6 FT), five rebounds, one block and one steal in 15 minutes off the bench during Monday's 121-108 loss to Philadelphia.

It was an incredibly efficient performance from Richards, who out-produced starting center Mark Williams (seven points, three boards, three assists and three blocks) in two fewer minutes of court time. Richards has bounced in and out of the starting five since returning from a rib fracture in late November, averaging 11.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 blocks in 22.5 minutes a contest over his last six appearances (three starts), but with Moussa Diabate also in the mix at center for the Hornets, it's tough to rely on any of them from a fantasy perspective.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Double-double in return

Ball (calf) racked up 15 points (5-15 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 11 assists, five rebounds and four steals across 26 minutes during Monday's 121-108 loss to Philadelphia.

The fifth-year point guard had missed the prior seven games with a left calf strain, but Ball looked fully healthy in his return, setting a season high in steals while collecting his fifth double-double in 19 appearances. Brandon Miller (ankle) left the game in the fourth quarter and didn't return, so Ball could see even higher usage in the short term. He may not have much more of a ceiling to reach, however -- on the season, Ball is averaging a career-high 30.2 points and 4.6 triples per game with 7.2 assists, 5.4 boards and 1.3 steals.

  • Hornets' Miles Bridges: Drops team-high 24 in loss

Bridges ended Monday's 121-108 loss to Philadelphia with 24 points (10-19 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes.

The 26-year-old forward led the Hornets in scoring in his second game back from a knee injury, producing his best points total since he popped for 27 against the Pistons on Nov. 6. Charlotte's starting five remains a revolving door -- LaMelo Ball returned from a calf injury Monday, only for Brandon Miller to leave in the fourth quarter with a sprained ankle. As long as Bridges can stay on the court though, he should be a centerpiece of the team's offense.

  • Hornets' Brandon Miller: Won't return Monday

Miller exited Monday's game against the 76ers during the fourth quarter with a sprained right ankle and won't return, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports. He'll finish the game with 12 points (4-9 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one block across 31 minutes.

Miller limped to the locker room with 8:20 remaining in the matchup after an awkward landing on a fastbreak layup. With the second-year pro unable to return in the final quarter, Tidjane Salaun and Cody Martin will likely pick up the slack the rest of the way.

  • Hornets' Vasilije Micic: Back to bench

Micic won't start Monday's game against the 76ers.

With LaMelo Ball (calf) back in action, Micic will retreat to the bench for the first time since Nov. 27. Tre Mann (back) is still sidelined, so Micic should remain in the rotation, though he will likely have a limited role.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Playing Monday vs. Sixers

Ball (calf) will be available for Monday's game against the 76ers, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Ball has been sidelined for the Hornets' last seven games due to a left calf injury, but the All-Star point guard will make his return Monday while operating on a minutes restriction. In the 10 games prior to his injury, Ball averaged 33.4 points, 7.7 assists and 5.9 rebounds over 35.4 minutes per contest.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: On track to play Monday

Ball (calf) is officially listed as questionable but will go through his pregame workout with the intention of suiting up Monday against the 76ers.

Coach Charles Lee said he feels "pretty good" about Ball getting clearance to play Monday, which would be the All-Star's first appearance since Nov. 27. Before the injury, Ball was in the midst of a superstar stretch, averaging 40.3 points, 8.3 assists and 7.5 rebounds in 37.5 minutes per game over his previous four appearances. However, he's expected to face a minutes restriction against Philadelphia.

  • Hornets' Tre Mann: Out two more weeks

The Hornets announced Monday that Mann (back) will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Mann has been sidelined since Nov. 21 due to lower back soreness diagnosed as disc irritation. He has begun light court work and returned to weight room activities, so the good news for Charlotte is that he's progressing in the right direction. Based on this timetable, the earliest Mann will likely return is Jan. 3 against Detroit.

  • Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Chance to return Monday

Ball (calf) is questionable for Monday's game against the 76ers.

Ball has missed seven straight games due to a left calf injury, but he has a chance to return Monday. The All-Star point guard was on fire before the injury, averaging 40.3 points, 8.3 assists and 7.5 rebounds in 37.5 minutes per game over his previous four appearances.

  • Hornets' Nick Smith: Headed to G League

The Hornets assigned Smith to the G League's Greensboro Swarm on Saturday.

Smith has made just two appearances for the Swarm this season. Over those two appearances, he is averaging 30.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 blocks in 33.7 minutes.

  • Hornets' Isaiah Wong: Extended run in loss

Wong ended Friday's 109-95 loss to Chicago with nine points (3-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), six rebounds, four assists and one steal over 22 minutes.

Wong played a career-high 22 minutes, scoring nine points for the third straight game. The Hornets continue to struggle at the point guard position, trying to stay afloat until LaMelo Ball returns from his calf injury. Although it is unlikely Wong will take the starting job away from Vasilije Micic, he is someone to keep an eye on, at least until Ball makes his return to the court.

  • Hornets' Miles Bridges: Serviceable performance in return

Bridges (knee) ended Friday's 109-95 loss to the Bulls with 14 points (5-16 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, four assists and one block in 25 minutes.

Bridges was eased back into action Friday after missing the Hornets' previous 10 games with a right knee bone bruise. Though he took back his spot in the starting five and nearly came through with a double-double, His shooting left a lot to be desired. Look for Bridges to see at least a slight uptick in playing time in the Hornets' next game Monday versus the 76ers.

  • Hornets' Mark Williams: Productive in start

Williams had 15 points (6-7 FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and one block across 17 minutes during Friday's 109-95 loss to the Bulls.

Williams got his first start of the season, falling one rebound short of a double-double. Williams continues to work his way back from injury, playing a season-high 17 minutes, while also seeing action in the second half for the first time. Given he has already moved ahead of Nick Richards in the rotation, it seems like just a matter of time before Williams is playing closer to starter minutes.
