The debate will likely go on for a few years as it has with Tyson Jackson: Did the Chiefs reach on Dontari Poe? Poe is the only Chiefs' rookie that fans expect to be an impact player this year, and after one preseason game, it appears the Chiefs are not rushing any of their draft picks along.

Top pick: NT Dontari Poe (first round, No. 11 overall) -- When the Chiefs went with Poe in the first round, the expectation was that he would immediately be a starter because the team did not have a proven player returning at that position. Instead, Anthony Toribio started camp with the first team and has held on to that spot. Coach Romeo Crennel has preached patience with Poe and said the rookie has a lot to learn. Nose tackle is a position where players typically don't make an immediate impact. Even Vince Wilfork didn't start every game for Crennel during his rookie season in 2004, so it's too early to make a rash judgment on Poe. For now, he's a situational pass rusher, which is probably less than Scott Pioli envisioned when he made the pick. Grade: C.

No. 2 pick: OG/OT Jeff Allen (second round, No. 44 overall) -- The plan for Allen was to move him from left tackle, where he played at Illinois, to left guard. Allen ended up playing both guard and tackle in camp and is expected to be a backup at both positions. The reason for the move to left guard was to groom Allen to take over for LG Ryan Lilja, who is in the final year of his contract. Lilja is likely the top option back up Rodney Hudson at center, and if that were to happen, Allen could slide in at guard. The fact that he's played both guard and tackle in preseason is a testament to his versatility. Grade: B+.

No. 3 pick: LT Donald Stephenson (third round, No. 74 overall) -- Stephenson is backing up Branden Albert at left tackle. Last season the Chiefs could not find a reliable backup at tackle and the hope is that Allen and Stephenson will provide good depth. Stephenson had a holding penalty in the first preseason game. That was not the best start but he has time to learn behind Albert. Grade: B.
