The Jaguars open camp on Friday with a new coach, a new owner and a renovated locker room at their practice facility. Though most of the team is showing up, the talk has been mainly about a couple of players that did not report.
Who’s here: Punter Bryan Anger, the team’s third-round pick and the highest selected specialist in the 2012 draft, got his contract done in time and will participate in camp. As did draft picks DE Andre Branch, LB Brandon Marshall, CB Mike Harris and DT Jeris Pendleton. Newcomer CB Aaron Ross is present, but will depart on Aug. 3 to watch his wife, Sonya Richards-Ross, compete in the London Olympics.
Who’s not: RB Maurice Jones-Drew and WR Justin Blackmon are the two big no-shows. Jones-Drew has a well-documented contract dispute going on and doesn’t appear ready to budge soon. Negotiations with Blackmon, the team’s first-round pick were complicated when he recently pleaded guilty to a DUI charge. DE John Chick, OL Uche Nwaneri, TE Zach Miller, OL Cameron Bradfield, DT Terrance Knighton and LB Clint Session will all start camp on the PUP list.
