Saints' George Johnson: Re-ups with New Orleans
The Saints signed Johnson to a one-year contract extension Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Johnson made an instant impact for the Saints after signing with New Orleans in late December, racking up 2.5 sacks in the final three games of the regular season. The 30-year-old was set to become a free agent at the start of the new league year, but the Saints were apparently eager to lock him up on a short-term deal before he hit the open market.

Johnson was let go by the Lions on Nov. 24 after suiting up in four games with the club. The veteran is expected to provide depth along the Saints' defensive line.

Lions' George Johnson: Returns to Detroit
Johnson signed a contract Tuesday with the Lions.
Johnson appeared in four games with the Lions earlier this season before being cut loose prior to the team's bye week. In order to re-sign Johnson, the Lions waived fellow defensive end Jacquies Smith. In his earlier stint with Detroit, Johnson averaged just over 20 defensive snaps per contest, recording two tackles in the process.

Lions' George Johnson: Joins Lions
Johnson signed a contract with the Lions on Wednesday.
Johnson spent the 2016 season on injured reserve with the Buccaneers and was released prior to Week 1 earlier this month. The 29-year-old will hope to replicate his 2014 season in Detroit when he had 29 tackles (23 solo) and six sacks, but he more likely will serve as a rotational piece on the defensive line.

Johnson was released Friday by the Buccaneers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
It was George's second stint with the team, but after failing to record a single sack in each of his last two seasons, he was simply a depth option on the defensive line. He'll now likely start the regular season on the free-agent market.
