Clint Boling: Nature of injury surfaces
Boling said Tuesday that he retired due to a medical condition stemming from a blood clot in his right leg, Geoff Hobson of the team's official site reports.
Boling decided to retire from the game Monday, citing medical reasons when doing so. The medical reason he stated was actually stemming from a blood clot that developed shortly after last season ended. As for the Bengals, Christian Westerman, John Jerry and Michael Jordan likely will compete for the Week 1 start at left guard in Boling's stead.

Bengals' Clint Boling: Retiring from football
Boling (undisclosed) is retiring from the NFL, citing medical reasons in a Monday announcement.
The 2011 fourth-round pick started 109 of his 111 career games in eight seasons with the Bengals, including all 16 contests in four of the past five seasons. Boling's retirement combined with Jonah Williams' shoulder surgery leaves Cincinnati with an open starting job at left guard. Christian Westerman, John Jerry and Michael Jordan likely will compete for the Week 1 start.

Boling (shoulder) feels he'll be ready for the start of training camp, Jim Owczarski of Cincinnati.com reports. "Everything's been going well. It's coming along well," Boling said. "I've been able to work out and do pretty much everything in the weight room. Just kind of keep taking the time and I should be back here pretty soon."
Boling underwent shoulder surgery this offseason after finishing the 2016 campaign on injured reserve. He's expected to return to his usual role as a first-string guard when healthy.
