Panthers' Wes Horton: Calls it a career
Horton announced his retirement from the NFL via his personal Instagram.
Horton was cut by the Saints on Sept. 9 and signed with the Panthers ahead of Week 10. The 30-year-old defensive end played six of eight games down the stretch, and he averaged 20 snaps per game when active. Horton never played a game for an organization other than the Panthers, and his career ends with 97 tackles and 15.5 sacks over seven pro seasons (83 games).

Panthers' Wes Horton: Signs with Carolina
The Panthers signed Horton on Wednesday, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.
Horton played 32 games with the Panthers over the last two seasons and recorded 41 tackles and seven sacks. He hasn't played for another team since, and he'll add depth behind starters Gerald McCoy and Vernon Butler going forward.

Wes Horton: Cut loose by Saints
Horton was released by the Saints on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Horton originally signed with New Orleans in mid-May. The 29-year-old played in Carolina for six seasons before making his way to the Saints. In a corresponding move, New Orleans promoted fellow defensive end Mitchell Loewen from the practice squad.

Saints' Wes Horton: Headed to Big Easy
Horton signed an undisclosed contract with the Saints on Tuesday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
The 29-year-old signs from Carolina, where he made 24 tackles (15 solo) and 1.5 sacks in 16 games last season. Horton will add to a ferocious pass rush that already includes Marcus Davenport and Cameron Jordan. To make room for Horton, the team decided to waive Darrell Williams.

Panthers' Wes Horton: Posts 1.5 sacks in win over Dallas
Horton recorded three tackles (one solo), including 1.5 sacks, in Sunday's 16-8 win over the Cowboys.
Horton recorded a career-high 5.5 sacks in 2017 and he looks to be chasing a new career high in 2018. He'll look to continue the season with another strong outing next week against the division-rival Falcons.

Panthers' Wes Horton: Could see increased reps in 2018
Horton has an opportunity to see an expanded role on defense in 2018, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charolette Observer reports.
Horton is entering his sixth season, all of which have been with the Panthers. The 28-year-old played 360 defensive snaps in 2017, but after the release of Charles Johnson this offseason, the Panthers will need someone to take on more reps in a rotation with veteran Julius Peppers. If he impresses during training camp, Horton could be line for a major uptick in his workload.

Panthers' Wes Horton: Signs two-year extension
Horton has signed a two-year contract to remain with the Panthers.
Horton's deal with keep him in Carolina through the 2018 campaign. Undrafted out of USC, Horton has been released and re-signed by the Panthers three times since entering the league in 2013, but after starting 10 of his 11 games played last year, he'll now enjoy some job security heading into the upcoming season.

Panthers' Wes Horton: One preseason appearance
Horton started Thursday's preseason finale against the Steelers.
Horton played in all four of the Panthers' exhibition contests despite spraining his right wrist to start camp. While that injury initially forced him to wear a cast, Horton still suited up at every opportunity, knowing his roster spot was under threat. Although he only managed two tackles, both in the all-important third preseason game, Horton's physicality in the run game has earned him a depth role for the Panthers the past three seasons, so his familiarity with the team could work in his favor.
