  • Broncos' Shamar Stephen: Agrees to deal with Denver

Stephen agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Broncos, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.

Stephen was cut by the Vikings in March after starting all 16 games for the team last season. The 30-year-old defensive tackle made 34 tackles with half a sack during that time. Broncos starting nose tackle Mike Purcell is battling a Lisfranc injury in his foot, so Stephen could wind up in a starting role if that injury lingers into the 2021 season. Otherwise, Stephen may need to settle for rotational duties.

  • Shamar Stephen: Let go by Vikings

Stephen was released by the Vikings on Tuesday.

Stephen has played six of his seven NFL seasons with the Vikings and has career totals of 173 tackles and 4.5 sacks. The 30-year-old interior defensive lineman will hope to latch on with another team in free agency.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: Gets start at nose tackle

Stephen started at nose tackle and had two total tackles in Sunday's loss to Green Bay. He also had two QB hurries, according to Pro Football Focus.

Stephen had the best performance amid a defense that struggled to generate any pass rush and was mediocre against the run. Stephen will be a key run stuffer for the Vikings and isn't likely to generate more than a sack or two.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: Notches 21 tackles

Stephen recorded 21 tackles, a sack and three pass breakups over 15 regular-season games.

After spending the 2018 campaign with Seattle, Stephen returned to the team that drafted him in 2014 and assumed a starting role alongside Linval Joseph. The 28-year-old Stephen is a valued run stopper and averaged 39.2 defensive snaps per game. He's under contract for two more years and should retain a regular role in Minnesota's line rotation in 2020.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: Trending in right direction

Stephen (knee) said Tuesday that he expects to play in Saturday's playoff game against the 49ers, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Stephen was listed as a full participant for Tuesday's practice estimation, serving as another good sign for his chances to suit up Saturday. The veteran sustained the injury during last week's game against the Saints but it appears that it won't keep him out of game action.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: Inactive for Week 17

Stephen (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's divisional contest against the Bears.

Stephen will rest Week 17, given that the Vikings have already locked up their playoff spot. In his stead, Jalyn Holmes could handle increased snaps on defense.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: On the board

Stephen recorded his first sack of 2019 during Sunday's loss to the Bears.

Stephen had his most impressive game of the season this past Sunday, finishing the contest with three tackles and logging 52 snaps on defense. Putting things into perspective, however, Stephen's sack was only the fourth sack of his career, one that has spanned five-plus seasons, so his value in IDP formats remains quite low at the moment.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: Rejoins roster

Stephen (personal) was removed from the non-football injury list Friday.

Stephen landed on the NFI list last week but ended up missing only the first week of camp. Coach Mike Zimmer previously said the 28-year-old wouldn't be out long, so his relatively quick return isn't much of a surprise. Stephen lines up to have a starting role for the Vikings after posting 25 tackles (11 solo) and two sacks in 15 games with the Seahawks in 2018.

  • Vikings' Shamar Stephen: Placed on NFI list

Stephen was placed on the active/non-football injury (NFI) list with an undisclosed issue. "Shamar ... it's basically nothing. Shamar is not going to be out long," said head coach Mike Zimmer.

Stephen suited up in 15 games for the Seahawks last season, making 25 tackles (11 solo) and two sacks. He returns to the Vikings after his one season with Seattle and should have a starting role if this issue doesn't turn out to be serious or cause him to miss a large portion of training camp.

  • Seahawks' Shamar Stephen: Inks deal with Vikings

Stephen plans to sign a three-year contract with Minnesota, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.

Stephen suited up in 15 games for the Seahawks last season, making 25 tackles (11 solo) and two sacks. The familiarity -- the Vikings drafted Stephen in 2014 -- could've led to the signing. The 29-year-old should compete for a starting role on the defensive line with Sheldon Richardson likely on his way out of Minnesota.

  • Seahawks' Shamar Stephen: Posts 25 tackles in 2018

Stephen made 25 tackles and two sacks in 2018.

After playing four years with the Vikings, Stephen signed a one-year deal with Seattle before the 2018 campaign. He posted his lowest tackle total in a full season since his rookie year in 2014. Stephen will become an unrestricted free agent in March, and if he sticks with the Seahawks, he'll face substantial competition from Poona Ford for a starting role on the defensive line.
