  • Josh Huff: Waived by Saints

Huff was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Huff was looking to earn a role as a depth receiver for the Saints, but they have ultimately decided to look in another direction. The 26-year-old pass catcher is facing a two-game ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy whenever he lands on a roster, which could have contributed towards New Orleans' decision.

  • Saints' Josh Huff: Receives two-game ban

The NFL suspended Huff for two games for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.

Since entering the NFL as a third-round pick in 2014, Huff has been unable to find a foothold and last took the field Week 16 of the 2016 season. Notably, he was arrested in November of that year for DUI and possession of marijuana, which precipitated his release from the Eagles. Huff has a reserve/future contract from the Saints in his back pocket, which will allow him to take part in the offseason program and during the preseason. In order to land on the 53-man roster, post-suspension, he may have to impress at every stage in advance of the regular season.

  • Saints' Josh Huff: Signs reserve/future contract

Huff signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of The Advocate reports.

The Saints intended to sign Huff to a reserve/future contract last week, but the contract was disapproved by the league due to a lack of spots on the rosters. The return specialist will now get an opportunity to make the Saints' 53-man roster behind the likes of Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn.

  • Josh Huff: Contract with Saints disapproved by NFL

The NFL disapproved the reserve/future contract between Huff and the Saints on Monday, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Huff heads back to free agency after the contract disapproval, which was initiated by a lack of open spots on the 53-man roster. The Saints are apparently still intent on bringing the 26-year-old onto the team's roster, but must re-work the contract and again file with the league for approval.

  • Saints' Josh Huff: Lands contract with New Orleans

The Saints signed Huff to a reserve/future contract Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Huff is a 2014 third-rounder out of Oregon who best profiles as a kickoff or punt-return specialist at this point in his career. He could be worth a look in dynasty formats but is well off the fantasy radar in redraft leagues ahead of the 2018 campaign.

  • Josh Huff: Gets waived by Bucs

The Buccaneers opted to waive Huff on Saturday, Jenna Laine of ESPN reports.

Huff was in a competition with Donteea Dye, Bernard Reedy and Freddie Martino for the final receiver spot on the Bucs' depth chart, but ultimately came up short. He will either end up on the team's practice squad or be left looking for a new opportunity.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: Will make final push for roster spot Thursday

Huff, who didn't play in last week's loss to the Browns, will be fighting to secure a roster spot during Thursday's exhibition finale versus the Redskins.

Bernard Reedy turned in another solid effort (one reception for 25 yards, three punt returns for 16 yards) while Huff sat against Cleveland, presumably putting the latter at a disadvantage in the competition for a receiver and returner role heading into Thursday. While Huff was serviceable on kickoffs over the first two exhibitions (two returns for 64 yards), Reedy has outperformed him on offense. Additionally, Donteea Dye, who logged two receptions for 18 yards in his preseason debut against Cleveland, is also in the conversation for a roster spot and is expected to see plenty of playing time against Washington.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: Solid as returner in second exhibition

Huff hauled in his only target for six yards and totaled 27 yards on his sole kickoff return in Thursday's 12-8 preseason win over the Jaguars.

Huff was outperformed by his primary competition for the fifth receiver/returner roles, Bernard Reedy, and also played four fewer snaps. However, Huff almost matched Reedy's 29 yards on kickoffs and is the only one of the two with any regular-season playing experience. Huff also has a two-inch height advantage and bigger frame than Reedy, so there are undeniably certain advantages he brings to the table in the job battle. The two will likely continue to fight for a roster spot through the final preseason game.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: Compiles 44 total yards Friday

Huff secured one of three targets for seven yards and added 37 yards on his sole kickoff return in Friday's 23-12 preseason loss to the Bengals.

The speedy third-year man looked good on his one runback but couldn't make much of an impact in the passing game. Huff, Freddie Martino and Bernard Reedy -- the latter two notably having prior experience with head coach Dirk Koetter in Atlanta -- are in a battle for the fifth receiver and kick returner jobs. Reedy was the most accomplished of that trio Friday, but Huff's big-play upside figures to continue affording him plenty of reps in practice and preseason contests.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: Back in practice Saturday

Huff (ribs) returned to practice Saturday and scored a touchdown against 2017 second-round pick Justin Evans in one-on-one drills, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Huff had gotten the wind knocked out of him Friday on a long diving reception, but he was no worse for wear Saturday. The speedster beat Evans on a quick out move near the goal line in individual drills to haul in a score from Jameis Winston. Huff is battling several players for the fifth receiver role and has also gotten reps at kickoff returner thus far in training camp.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: To have ribs checked

Huff got the wind knocked out of him during Friday's practice and will have his ribs examined, ESPN's Jenna Laine reports.

Huff said the hit he took resulted in a different feeling than prior times this has happened to him, including some rib soreness. As a result, the wideout will have his condition checked later Friday, at which point an update on his status could surface.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: DUI citation dismissed on eve of camp

Huff had a DUI citation from a November 2016 arrest dismissed Tuesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Huff had been cited for suspicion of being under the influence of marijuana, as well as with unlawful possession of a weapon, when he was stopped for speeding in New Jersey last November as a member of the Eagles. The 25-year-old receiver had already entered into a pretrial diversion program for the weapons charges, which will be dropped if Huff successfully completes a six-month probationary period without incident. However, the drug-related offense was still an issue until Tuesday's development, which also involved Huff pleading guilty to the speeding citation. The incident cost the speedster his job with Philadelphia and led to his eventual arrival in Tampa, and as per Auman, Huff will have a chance to compete for a job as both a reserve receiver and returner in training camp.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: Working as kickoff returner in OTAs

Huff is getting reps as a kickoff returner in OTAs, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

Huff tallied just three catches for 41 yards over three games with the Bucs in 2016 after an in-season release by the Eagles, but given his upside, the team wants to try and maximize his impressive skill set. His speed has served him well on special teams in the past, with the 25-year-old having compiled 1,237 yards and two touchdowns on 48 kickoff returns over 37 career games. Considering the receiver depth chart received a substantial talent infusion during the offseason, Huff's most consistent snaps in 2017 could very well come on special teams.

  • Buccaneers' Josh Huff: Won't face jail time for 2016 arrest

Huff accepted a conditional plea on November 2016 for unlawful possession of weapons charges, meaning that he will not face any jail time for the infraction, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

As per his attorney Andrew Smith, the 25-year-old will be subject to six months' probation and will have the charges expunged from his record as long as he successfully complies. The Nov. 1, 2016 incident, which also involved DUI and marijuana possession charges, unfolded during a traffic stop in New Jersey while Huff was still with the Eagles. It led to his release just two days later, which paved the way for his signing by the Bucs on Nov. 7. Huff saw action in three games in Tampa, totaling three receptions for 41 yards and adding 72 yards on six kickoff returns. The Oregon product does have 48 receptions for 482 yards and four touchdowns on his resume from his time in Philadelphia, so the Bucs are looking forward to seeing what he can do with a full offseason, training camp and preseason under coach Dirk Koetter's offensive system. Huff has recently worked out with Jameis Winston and several other teammates in Houston and was present for the start of the team's OTAs on Monday, but it remains to be seen how the NFL may weigh in with respect to disciplinary action for the incident.
