Top Quinton Patton News

  • Quinton Patton: Released with injury settlement

Patton (foot) was released from the Jets' injured reserve with an injury settlement, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.

Patton underwent foot surgery in December and has yet to fully recover. With there likely being at least 10 receivers ahead of him on the 90-man depth chart, he faced long odds to make the roster even if he was healthy. Once his foot heals, Patton will look to catch on with another team in 2017.

  • Jets' Quinton Patton: Placed on injured reserve

Patton (foot) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Ethan Greenberg of NewYorkJets.com reports.

Patton underwent foot surgery last December and wasn't expected to be back in time for training camp, so the team wasted little time in moving him to IR to open up a roster spot. The Jets signed receiver Devin Street in a corresponding move to add depth at the position. Patton hauled in 37 of 63 targets for 408 yards last season with the 49ers.

  • Jets' Quinton Patton: Heading to Jets

The Jets and Patton (foot) agreed to terms on a contract Thursday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.

A fourth-round pick of the 49ers in 2013, Patton managed just six receptions across 10 games in his first two seasons before landing a regular role within the offense. Despite the uptick in snaps beginning in 2015, uninspiring offenses under the direction of head coaches Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly didn't translate to significant output, as evidenced by a combined 67 catches (on 120 targets) for 802 yards and one touchdown during that stretch. With the move to New York, Patton will now be jostling with a number of options -- wideouts Eric Decker (shoulder), Quincy Enunwa, and Robby Anderson, plus pass-catching backs Matt Forte (knee) and Bilal Powell -- in an offense led by graybeard quarterback Josh McCown.

  • Quinton Patton: Visits with Jets

Patton (foot) visited with the Jets on Saturday, the team's official website reports.

The 2013 fourth-round selection had career-high marks in catches (37), targets (63) and receiving yards (408) last season, despite missing the final two games with a broken foot that required surgery. A return to San Francisco is seemingly out of the question, as the 49ers signed Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin and Aldrick Robinson within the first few days of free agency. New York would be a favorable landing spot, potentially giving Patton a chance to compete for a role as the No. 3 or 4 wide receiver behind Eric Decker (shoulder) and Quincy Enunwa. He's never been much of a downfield threat, producing only 12.1 yards per catch on 73 career receptions with a long gain of 45 yards.

  • 49ers' Quinton Patton: Has foot surgery Tuesday

Patton underwent surgery on a broken foot Tuesday, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.

The nature of Patton's season-ending foot injury is now known, but a recovery timetable has yet to be established. The upcoming unrestricted free agent finished his fourth NFL season with career highs in receptions (37), targets (63), and yards (408), but the second touchdown of his career still awaits.

  • 49ers' Quinton Patton: Moved to IR

Patton (foot) has been moved to injured reserve, Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Patton was already declared out for the season following Sunday's loss to the Falcons, but his IR designation opens up a roster spot for wide receiver DeAndre Smelter. Patton will look to begin his recovery process in the hopes of being ready for training camp in 2017.
