The Saints released Harris on Sunday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
In his three-year stint with Washington to start his career, Harris combined for a 40-432-1 line on 65 targets across 28 games. He wasn't tendered by the team in March 2019 and subsequently spent the offseason with the Patriots, but a lower leg injury resulted in his release before the season. He proceeded to see no NFL action last year before signing a reserve/future contract with the Saints in January. Harris will look for employment elsewhere following Sunday's move.

Harris signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints on Thursday, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

As a result, once Harris is healthy he'll be free to sign with another team. The wideout looked like he may push for a role in the Patriots' offense this season, but his injury, combined with the return to the field of Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) led to Harris being the odd man out in the team's wideout corps.

Harris (lower leg) cleared waivers Monday and reverted to New England's injured reserve, Doug Kyed of NESN.com reports.
Harris reportedly has a chance of recovering from his lower leg injury within a matter of weeks, according to Nick Underhill of The Athletic. If Harris is indeed able to get healthy before the end of the 2019 season, Kyed reports that the Patriots likely will release him with an injury settlement.

During joint practices with the Titans prior to a preseason Week 2 matchup, Harris picked up a lower-leg injury of unknown nature and severity, missing the Patriots' second and third exhibitions as a result. His drive for a roster spot was hindered further with fellow wide receivers Julian Edelman (NFI), Josh Gordon (NFI) and Demaryius Thomas (Achilles, PUP) all returning to practice in the past week. If he passes through waivers unclaimed, Harris is destined to land on injured reserve.

Harris caught three of five targets for 27 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 31-3 preseason opening win over the Lions.
Harris opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown catch from Brian Hoyer. The former Redskins wideout has just one career regular-season touchdown in three NFL campaigns and has never eclipsed 304 receiving yards in a season, but he's making a case to earn significant playing time in a wide open competition on the outside. This performance was another step in the right direction.

Patriots' Maurice Harris: Looking good in camp
Harris has been a training camp standout thus far, Trevor Hass of the Boston Globe reports.
Meanwhile, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com notes Harris and QB Tom Brady are "developing a bit of a rapport." Beyond entrenched slot ace Julian Edelman (thumb) and 2019 first-rounder N'Keal Harry, there's not a ton of certainty with regard to how the Patriots' wideout corps will shake out, and Harris is making a case for a role in the team's offense to start the coming season. To that end, Harris' main competition for slotting comes in the form of returnee Phillip Dorsett and fellow newcomer Dontrelle Inman. Down the road, Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) could also factor in, when healthy, as could Josh Gordon, if he's eventually reinstated from his suspension. Though Harris isn't a burner, at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, he has good size and is viewed as a solid route runner with good hands. That's a combo that could lead to favorable results in 2019, if the 26-year-old's on-field chemistry with Brady continues to grow.

Harris looked good throughout OTAs and minicamp, Jeff Howe and Nick Underhill of The Athletic report.
Howe and Underhill both put Harris on their way-too-early projection for the 53-man roster, while Dontrelle Inman is left off and Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) is projected for the PUP list. The contracts hint at a slightly different picture, with Inman receiving $300,000 guaranteed and Harris getting just $90,000. The Patriots have a host of wide receivers competing for one or two spots behind Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett and special teamer Matthew Slater. An impressive spring won't mean much if Harris fails to maintain his momentum into training camp and the preseason.
