  • Daniel Lasco: Parts ways with New Orleans

The Saints waived Lasco (neck) on Wednesday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Lasco was an exclusive-rights free agent after he spent the entire 2018 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list with a bulging disc he initially suffered late in 2017. The 26-year-old is apparently healthy after the extended absence and will look to find a new team for 2019.

  • Daniel Lasco: Cut by New Orleans

Lasco (neck) was waived by the Saints on Wednesday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Following a failed physical, the Saints are cutting ties with Lasco to free up a roster spot for veteran pass-catching back Shane Vereen. The 2016 seventh-round pick played jus 38 snaps in 2017, all on special teams. He was placed on injured reserve in mid-November after a scary collision caused a bulging disc in his neck and a concussion.

  • Saints' Daniel Lasco: Suffers season-ending injury

Lasco suffered a bulging disc in Sunday's game against the Bills and will miss the rest of the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

There was serious concern when Lasco was taken off the field in an ambulance, and beyond the injury being deemed non-life-threatening, it's also encouraging to learn that it likely isn't career-ending. There's no report as to how long Lasco will be out, but the expectation is that he'll make a full recovery. The running back was primarily used on special teams this season.

  • Saints' Daniel Lasco: Promoted to active roster

Lasco was promoted to the Saints' active roster Tuesday, John Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune reports.

Lasco will become the No. 4 back on the Saints depth chart after starting the season on the practice squad. Look for second-year pro to play more of a role on special teams as Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram are poised to handle the majority of the reps out of the backfield.

  • Daniel Lasco: Waived by Saints

Lasco was waived by the Saints on Friday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

The Saints feature a plethora of talent at running back with Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson and Alvin Kamara, so this isn't too surprising. Lasco was been a core special teams player for New Orleans in his rookie season, and could easily end up back on the roster at various times this season.

  • Saints' Daniel Lasco: Projected to make final roster

Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune projects Lasco to make the Saints' final 53-man roster. The second-year pro played 21 offensive snaps in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, gaining 10 yards on four carries and 23 yards on three receptions.

Lasco is a big back with great speed, but he saw only limited playing time last season behind Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower. Even if he's able to make the final roster, with the offseason additions of Adrian Peterson and Alvin Kamara, Lasco again faces a steep uphill battle for playing time.

  • Saints' Daniel Lasco: Logs underwhelming rookie season

Lasco gained 32 yards on 11 carries and added two catches for 11 yards in seven games in 2016.

Lasco was one of the last players to claim a roster spot out of training camp, but the seventh-round draft pick was limited by injuries during much of his rookie campaign and had only minimal offensive impact. Still, the ultra-athletic running back remains an intriguing dynasty prospect. Starter Mark Ingram will almost certainly return in 2017, but both Tim Hightower and Travaris Cadet will be unrestricted free agents this offseason, which could open the door for Lasco to play a larger role in the Saints' offense next season.

  • Saints' Daniel Lasco: Inactive in Week 16 versus Bucs

Lasco (coach's decision) is inactive for Saturday's Week 16 tilt versus the Bucs, the team's official site reports.

With Tim Hightower and Mark Ingram at full health -- and Travaris Cadet around to handle third-down work -- Lasco's role would have presumably been minimal had he suited up anyhow.

  • Saints' Daniel Lasco: Not on injury report

Lasco is not listed on the Saints' injury report.

The running back had been hampered by hamstring and knee issues, leading to an inactive designation in Week 15 against the Cardinals. It appears as though he'll have a chance to return to the field in Week 16, although with Tim Hightower and Mark Ingram healthy, he's unlikely to make an impact.
