Karl Joseph: Gets look from San Francisco
Joseph (ankle) had a workout with the 49ers on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Joseph entered training camp with the Steelers in 2022, but he ultimately suffered an ankle injury that placed him on injured reserve and kept him out for the season. Now healthy, the 2016 first-round selection is working to earn another NFL opportunity and could find one with San Francisco, who recently lost Talanoa Hufanga to a torn ACL.

As expected, Joseph lands on injured reserve after news that he'd miss the remainder of the campaign due to an ankle injury. The 2016 first-round selection picked up the injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Seahawks.

While Joseph's injury status is still unconfirmed, his need for these walking aids is a discouraging sign for his short-term health moving forward. The veteran safety was elevated from the Steelers' practice squad for two games last season after being released by the Raiders in August of 2021. Unless he can get healthy again this preseason, it's likely that Pittsburgh will opt for younger players at backup safety over Joseph on the team's final 53-man roster.

Joseph will not participate in the remainder of Pittsburgh's preseason game against the Seahawks after sustaining an ankle injury Saturday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Joseph was seen having his right ankle looked at on Pittsburgh's sideline, though the exact severity of this injury is still unclear, per Alan Saunders of PittsburghSportsNow.com. The 28-year-old safety re-signed with the Steelers on a one-year deal in March after playing two games -- he posted one tackle and one pass defended -- for the team during the 2021 campaign. Once healthy this preseason, Joseph figures to compete with Linden Stephens, Miles Killebrew and Donovan Stiner for a depth role in the Steelers' secondary.

Steelers' Karl Joseph: Remains in Pittsburgh
Joseph signed a one-year contract with the Steelers on Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Joseph spent the majority of the 2021 season on Pittsburgh's practice squad, though he did play in two games and record two tackles. If Terrell Edmunds ultimately lands elsewhere in free agency, Joseph should have the opportunity to earn a larger role in 2022.

Joseph (COVID-19) was restored into the Steelers' practice squad Saturday.
The safety tested positive for the virus earlier this week, but he was able to recover quickly and is back on the practice squad as a result. He has appeared in just two games for Pittsburgh this season, so his absence shouldn't affect many fantasy rosters going forward.

It appears rookie second-round pick Trevon Moehrig won the starting free safety role, meaning Joseph will get an opportunity to sign elsewhere as a free agent. The 2016 first-round pick played 14 games for the Browns last year and recorded 67 tackles (46 solo), four pass breakups and an interception. He'll add dependable secondary depth with another team.
