  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Officially placed on IR

The Texans placed Edwards (pectoral) on injured reserve Monday.

Edwards suffered a season-ending torn pectoral muscle during Houston's 40-20 win over the Cardinals in Week 15, so his placement on IR is nothing short of expected. With the veteran defensive tackle now sidelined, expect Naquan Jones to operate as the Texans' top rotational option at defensive tackle behind starters Sheldon Rankins and Tommy Togiai.

The 31-year-old has appeared in all 14 of the Texans' games this season, recording 13 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks, across 279 defensive snaps. With Edwards set to miss the rest of the year, expect Sheldon Rankins and Tommy Togiai to operate as Houston's top interior defensive linemen.

His 2024 tackle total also included 3.0 sacks, and Edwards added two pass breakups and two fumble recoveries across 13 regular-season games.

Edwards was able to record his highest tackle total since his rookie season in 2015 with the Raiders. The defensive lineman was also able to secure his first two career fumble recoveries in 2024. Edwards will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2025 campaign.

  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Set to return in Week 11

The Texans removed Edwards' roster exemption Monday.

The 30-year-old defensive lineman was reinstated from his four-game suspension by the NFL on Nov. 11, and his activation Monday suggests that he'll return for the Texans' Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys. Expect Edwards to serve as one of Houston's top rotational defensive lineman Monday night, having recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, through six appearances this season.

  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Reinstated by NFL

The NFL reinstated Edwards from his four-game suspension Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Edwards was suspended Oct. 14 for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, but he's since served his time and missed the Texans' last four contests. The veteran defensive lineman recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and one pass defended through six appearances before his suspension. He's expected to play in Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys, but he must still be activated to the Texans' active roster in order to suit up.
