  • Steelers' Gus Johnson: Among round of cuts Tuesday

Johnson was released by the Steelers on Tuesday, The Observer-Reporter's Dale Lolley reports.

Pittsburgh made a round of cuts Tuesday and trimmed down the running back room by releasing Johnson and Brandon Brown-Dukes. Johnson was signed to a reserve/future deal earlier in the offseason, but Pittsburgh's addition of James Conner in the draft made Johnson expendable.

  • Steelers' Gus Johnson: Signs with Steelers

Johnson was signed to a reserve/future contract on Tuesday, Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.

Johnson spent all of 2016 on practice squads and will be looking to carve out a role with the Steelers in 2017. He'll likely be competing for a depth running back and special teams position.

  • Gus Johnson: Signed to Falcons practice squad

Johnson signed with the Falcons' practice squad Monday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Johnson spent last season on the Dallas practice squad and was waived by the Chargers this past weekend. The Falcons are fairly secure at running back with Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman leading the way, but Johnson will be able to provide some insurance at the position.

  • Chargers' Gus Johnson: Joins Chargers

Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Chargers on Monday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

After losing Branden Oliver to an Achilles injury during Sunday's preseason game to the Vikings, the Chargers moved quickly to replace their No. 3 RB, scooping up Johnson off waivers. A practice squad player with the Cowboys throughout much of last season, Johnson will provide depth at the running back position and could compete with undrafted free agents Dreamius Smith and Kenneth Farrow for the backup job behind starter Melvin Gordon, and pass-catching threat Danny Woodhead.

  • Falcons' Gus Johnson: Racks up 42 yards in preseason win

Johnson tallied 42 yards on five carries in Thursday's preseason game against the Browns.

Johnson was a pretty effective runner against the Browns, but he's still got an uphill battle to be a contributing back for the Falcons this season.
