Ryan Griffin: Accepts coaching position
Chicago announced Feb. 23 that Griffin has been added to the coaching staff in an assistant role, signaling the end of his playing career, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports.
The 34-year-old Griffin didn't play in the NFL in 2023, but he still kept his career going abroad, as he had played for the Varese Skorpions of the Italian Football League. Griffin has since returned stateside, but he'll be working with the Bears quarterbacks this offseason rather than competing for a roster spot. The signal-caller spent time in the NFL with the Saints and Buccaneers from 2013 through 2022, serving primarily as a third-string quarterback or practice-squad member over his decade-long run in the professional ranks. He appeared in just three NFL games during his career and completed two of four pass attempts for 18 yards.

Buccaneers' Ryan Griffin: Returns to Bucs' practice squad
Griffin was signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad Wednesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Griffin will return to the Buccaneers' for an eighth consecutive season, making him the longest tenured quarterback in franchise history. That being said, the 32-year-old has not appeared in a game since 2020 and has thrown four total regular-season passes since entering the league in 2013. Griffin will most likely spend the entire season on the practice squad barring any injuries.

Ryan Griffin: Cut by Bucs
Griffin was waived by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Griffin re-signed with the Buccaneers in March but he will now look for another opportunity, as the team opted to keep Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask as the two reserve options behind Tom Brady to open the 2022 campaign. The quarterback has been with the Buccaneers organization since 2015 and will likely return to the team's practice squad once he clears waivers.

Buccaneers' Ryan Griffin: Stays with Bucs
The Buccaneers have re-signed Griffin.
Griffin, who has been with the Bucs since September 2015, spent last season on Tampa Bay's practice squad. Now that he's back in the fold, the 32-year-old will remain in the team's backup QB mix along with 2021 second-rounder Kyle Trask behind returning starter Tom Brady.

Ryan Griffin: Moves back to practice squad
Griffin reverted to the Buccaneers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Griffin was inactive for Sunday's loss to the Rams, despite the bump up from the practice squad. The 32-year-old has been with Tampa Bay since 2015, but he hasn't taken a snap in a regular-season game since 2019.

Buccaneers' Ryan Griffin: Elevated to practice squad
The Buccaneers elevated Griffin from their practice squad Saturday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Griffin spent the entire regular season on Tampa Bay's practice squad, but he'll provide additional depth at quarterback behind Tom Brady in Sunday's divisional-round matchup against the Rams. Assuming Brady remains healthy, Griffin is unlikely to take the field.

Ryan Griffin: Released by Tampa Bay
Griffin was released by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
The Buccaneers will seemingly keep two quarterbacks -- Blaine Gabbert and rookie second-round pick Kyle Trask -- to back up Tom Brady. Griffin has thrown just four regular-season passes since entering the NFL in 2013. He'll be a practice-squad candidate.

Buccaneers' Ryan Griffin: Unremarkable over two exhibitions
Griffin is 12-for-22 for 92 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions over the Buccaneers' first two preseason games.
Griffin has put together matching 6-for-11 tallies in that pair of exhibitions, and with an average of just 4.2 yards per attempt, he's clearly been limited to short throws. The 31-year-old did not attempt a pass last season as the third quarterback, and with head coach Bruce Arians having previous experience with last season's No. 2 Blaine Gabbert, it appears Griffin could be headed to another year of perpetual inactive status if he does stick on the roster.
