Johnson signed his exclusive rights tender prior to the start of offseason workouts Monday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Johnson acquitted himself well over that span, posting 48 tackles (40 solo), two passes defensed, one interception and one fumble recovery. Looking ahead to 2019, Johnson will look to reprise both roles under new coordinators Todd Bowles and Keith Armstrong, respectively.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Earns tender from Tampa
The Buccaneers extended a tender to Johnson on Friday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
Johnson spent his first two years in the league unable to maintain a consistent role with a team, but he was on the active roster for all 16 games in 2018, recording 48 tackles and an interception. His contract tender basically guarantees he'll be with the Buccaneers in 2019, and he'll likely stick in a similar reserve role since Justin Evans and Jordan Whitehead are still under contract.

Johnson (concussion) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.
While he's yet to clear the league-mandated protocol, Johnson's return to limited participation is obviously a step in the right direction. The rookie safety's potential return to action in Week 15 would be a particularly welcome sight, considering Justin Evans (toe) appears set to miss yet another contest.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Misses practice Wednesday
Johnson (illness) missed practice Wednesday, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.
The rookie is coming off a solid six-tackle performance in the Week 12 win over the 49ers. With the illness manifesting early in the week, the hope is that Johnson will be sufficiently recovered to take the field in Week 13 against the Panthers. Subsequent practice reports this week will offer further clarity, and it's also worth noting that Justin Evans (toe), who Johnson filled in for the last two weeks, did make a return to practice Wednesday, albeit in limited fashion.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Strong production in spot start
Johnson totaled six tackles (all solo) and an interception in the Buccaneers' 27-9 win over the 49ers on Sunday.

The 26-year-old will head back to a reserve role as soon as Evans is able to return, but he's flashed some IDP upside with 16 total tackles (13 solo) and Sunday's pick over the last two games with the first unit.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Second straight start in Week 12
Johnson will log a second consecutive start Sunday against the 49ers in place of Justin Evans (toe), Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
The second-year safety posted an impressive 10 tackles (seven solo) against the Giants in Week 11, and he'll have a chance to follow up that performance with a second straight starting nod. Johnson will have a bit of a reprieve in that he catches the 49ers short-handed at receiver, as both Marquise Goodwin (personal) and Pierre Garcon (knee) are inactive for Sunday's contest.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Gets starting nod Sunday
Johnson will start Sunday against the Giants, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Johnson will start alongside rookie Jordan Whitehead. The vacancy in the starting lineup comes from Justin Evans' absence as he deals with a toe injury. The last time Johnson started for Tampa Bay was Week 4 against the Bears, where he recorded five tackles (all solo) over 60 defensive snaps and 13 special teams snaps. Johnson has also logged 11 tackles (nine solo) in his last four games.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Gets starting nod Sunday
Johnson will start at free safety Sunday versus the Bears, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Johnson will start next to strong safety Justin Evans since Jordan Whitehead (hamstring) is injured. The 25-year-old has played just four defensive snaps in three regular-season games, so it's tough to project how he'll perform with a full workload ahead of him. Fantasy owners should steer clear.

Buccaneers' Isaiah Johnson: Let go by Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers waived Johnson on Tuesday.
The Buccaneers promoted Johnson to their active roster Oct. 5, with the defensive back logging three special-teams tackles in two games. However, he was inactive for the Week 7 loss to the Bills and was unlikely to have a role with the team in the near future, so the Buccaneers decided it was best to cut ties with Johnson. He could be a candidate to rejoin the Bucs' practice squad if he goes unclaimed off waivers.
