Winchester (shoulder) was listed as a full participant during practice Monday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

  • Chiefs' James Winchester: Should be good for Week 1

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub said Tuesday that Winchester (shoulder) will be held out of practice this week and should be ready for the Chiefs' regular-season opener against the Ravens, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.

Winchester suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder in Saturday's preseason game against the Lions. Toub appeared optimistic Tuesday that the rest will be enough for Winchester to be ready for the regular-season opener. The Chiefs signed Randen Plattner on Monday to handle special-teams snaps in case Winchester is sidelined for longer than anticipated.

  • Chiefs' James Winchester: Hurts shoulder against Lions

Winchester suffered a shoulder injury in the Chiefs' preseason game against Detroit on Saturday and is questionable to return.

The severity of the long-snapper's shoulder injury is still up in the air, but he did not make it on the field with the punt team after this news was released. Tight end Noah Gray is stepping in at the long-snapper position in place of Winchester.

  • Chiefs' James Winchester: Gets new deal

Winchester has signed a two-year extension with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Winchester's new contract will reportedly make him the highest paid long-snapper in the business. The seven-year veteran went undrafted out of Oklahoma and has spent his entire career with the Chiefs.

Winchester (undisclosed) was reinstated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Nick Jacobs of KSHB reports.

Winchester was forced to isolate for the first few days of camp, but he was working on special teams during Friday's practice. The 31-year-old should serve as Kansas City's starting long snapper to begin the 2021 campaign.

  • Chiefs' James Winchester: Lands on COVID list

Winchester was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Charles Goldman of Chiefs Wire reports.

Winchester first joined the Chiefs in 2015, and he signed a five-year contract extension in 2017. It is unclear how much time the 31-year-old will miss, but as a precaution, Kansas City has brought in Drew Scott as a temporary replacement.
