Top Demetri Goodson News

  • Demetri Goodson: Working in scouting

The Packers promoted Goodson on Wednesday, hiring him as a college scout for the Midlands region.

Goodson had his playing days come to an end following the 2018 season, when he joined Green Bay -- the team that drafted him in the sixth round in 2014 -- as a scouting intern in 2019. He apparently impressed in that position and will now receive a full-time role with the organization's front office. Over his five-year professional career, the cornerback saw action in parts of three seasons. He played 26 NFL games in total, recording 29 tackles and two pass breakups.

  • Demetri Goodson: Waived by Saints

Goodson was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Goodson was let go so the Saints could beef up their defensive line depth. He was brought in last week to serve as a depth corner and special teams contributor.

  • Saints' Demetri Goodson: Signs with New Orleans

Goodson signed with the Saints on Thursday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Goodson was brought in last week for a workout with the Saints and was consequently signed Thursday. The 29-year-old cornerback recently played for Green Bay and has not seen NFL action since 2016. Goodson will look to provide depth to a Saints secondary that ranks 30th in the NFL in passing yards against per game this season (311).

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Back in action

Goodson (calf) was a participant in OTAs on Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Goodson sat out last Thursday's session with a calf injury. However, his return to action Monday suggests he isn't dealing with anything severe.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Sidelined with calf injury

Goodson sat out Thursday's OTA practice due to a calf injury, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

Goodson ended the 2017 season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. It's unclear if the hamstring is still bothering him at all, but his calf was what ultimately held him out recently in OTAs. There's no indication that his injury is serious and it isn't expected to impact him once training camp begins.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Lands on injured reserve

Goodson (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve by the Packers on Friday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Goodson's year-long rehab from last November's nasty knee injury ended in disappointment, as he never saw the field in 2017. The 28-year-old came off the Physically Unable to Perform list late last month, only to injure his hamstring shortly thereafter.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Ruled out Saturday

Goodson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Vikings, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Goodson has yet to take the field this season after coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list over two weeks ago. At this point, the Packers may decide to not play the reserve cornerback for the remainder of the season in hopes of affording him a clean bill of health heading into 2018.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Sitting out against Carolina

Goodson (hamstring) is inactive Sunday against the Panthers.

Primarily a special teamer, Goodson's absence should not drastically affect the alignment of the Green Bay secondary, even with Davon House (shoulder) out for the contest as well.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Questionable for Week 15

Goodson (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com report.

Goodson was a limited participant in practice this week and is likely to be a game-day decision. The 28-year-old could see an increased role if he's able to play Sunday with Davon House (back) ruled out, but he's still more likely to see a role on special teams.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Ruled out for Sunday

Goodson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns, Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com reports.

Goodson, who was activated off the PUP list on Wednesday, still isn't ready for game action quite yet. The Packers will be thin at cornerback with Davon House (shoulder) likely out and Kevin King (shoulder) recently placed on injured reserve, so expect Damarious Randall and Josh Hawkins to see plenty of work in Week 14.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Unlikely to play Sunday

Coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Goodson (hamstring) is a "long shot" to play in Sunday's game against the Browns.

Goodson was just activated off the PUP on Wednesday, so it's no surprise that it may take a while before the defensive back is ready to return to the field. Corners Kevin King (shoulder) and Quinten Rollins (Achilles) are both on injured reserve, so Goodson could see some opportunities in the secondary once he's deemed healthy enough to play.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Activated from PUP list

Goodson (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday and will be available Sunday against the Browns.

With Kevin King (shoulder) and Quinten Rollins (Achilles) on injured reserve, Goodson could have some opportunities on defense in the near future. Goodson's lack of speed has held him back in the past, so even if he's deployed on defense, the fourth-year pro doesn't warrant fantasy consideration at this time.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Won't play Week 13

Goodson (knee) wasn't activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday and thus won't be eligible to play Sunday against the Buccaneers, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

There were murmurs earlier this week that Goodson would make his 2017 debut Sunday following a long recovery from surgery to address significant ligament damage to his left knee, but it appears the Packers want to have the cornerback put in some more practice time before returning to game action. His window for activation doesn't expire until Wednesday, so expect the Packers to make a transaction involving Goodson before then.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Expected to play Sunday

Goodson (knee) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "It's unbelievable that I came back from that (injury), and I'm about to play, and playing the way I'm playing at practice right now," Goodson said. "It's all God. It's pretty amazing. It really is."

Goodson began practicing two weeks ago after spending the entire year on the PUP list due to a gruesome knee injury he suffered over a year ago. It is reported that the cornerback will be activated before Sunday's game and should take the field in some capacity. It seems unlikely the Packers will unleash a full workload on the fourth-year pro, but any reps Goodson receives Sunday should be viewed as major progress.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Returns to practice

Goodson (knee) resumed practicing Wednesday, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

Goodson has spent the entire season on the Physically Unable to Perform list while recovering from a severe knee injury he sustained during the 2016 campaign. The cornerback's return to practice Wednesday opens a three-week window in which the Packers will have to either add him onto the 53-man roster or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Still recovering from knee injury

The Packers have placed Goodson (knee) on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Goodson is still working his way back from the knee injury he suffered late last season, so he will not be available for the first few weeks of the regular season. He did not practice at all during training camp, and he could be out the entire season if he does not make strides over the next couple weeks.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Beginning camp on PUP list

Goodson (ACL) is starting training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.

Goodson is still recovering from his ACL tear in November, and his placement on the PUP list is no surprise. It's anticipated that he'll be activated sometime during the middle of camp, where he'll be competing to maintain his spot as a depth corner.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Ahead of schedule in recovery

Goodson (knee) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Goodson tore the ACL in gruesome fashion last November but is already back on the field working out with a trainer on the sidelines. After it was initially believed that he might not be ready to go for the start of the 2017 season, Goodson is now eyeing a return for the middle of training camp.

  • Packers' Demetri Goodson: Likely to miss beginning of 2017 season

Goodson (knee) is unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2017 season, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.

Goodson tore his ACL and MCL in November, which gives him a tight timetable for a return to form by the start of next season. The Packers are currently light at the corner position and thus will be hoping for a quick recovery from Goodson.
