Thompson was waived by the Broncos on Friday, Mike Klis of 9News reports.
An undrafted rookie in 2014, Thompson managed to garner a roster spot in each of his first three seasons and played in 30 games for the Broncos between 2014 and 2015. He'll either be claimed by another club or wind up on the free-agent market.

Broncos' Juwan Thompson: Runs for 19 yards in Kansas City
Thomas rushed for 19 yards on three carries in Sunday's loss to Kansas City.
The three touches were a season-high for Thompson. The former undrafted free agent never got many looks at fullback after rookie Andy Janovich went on injured reserve nor has he gotten many opportunities at running back. Though Sunday should be all about preparing for 2017, it'd be a surprise if Thompson got much usage as Denver will almost surely want to get a long last look at rookie Devontae Booker.

Thompson got a few more looks than planned after No. 2 back Kapri Bibbs went out with an ankle injury. With veteran Justin Forsett, versed in Gary Kubiak's offense, now in the fold - expect Thompson's value to return to the occasional goal-line carry.

Thompson, a halfback/fullback hybrid, was called up from the practice squad to provide depth after C.J. Anderson went on injured reserve. He's carried the ball just once this year, but that carry encapsulates why Thompson might be a threat at fullback, as he scored on a one-yard plunge from fullback spot in Week 9's win over San Diego. The carry was reminiscent of a two-touchdown game Thompson had against San Diego in 2014, where both touchdowns also scored as the upback. The emergence of tight end A.J. Derby may give the Broncos enough flexibility to move tight end Virgil Green into the backfield between the 20-yard lines, but once the Broncos get near the goal line, don't be surprised if Thompson vultures a few scores.

Broncos' Juwan Thompson: Inactive for Week 10
Thompson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 10 tilt with the Saints.
After Thompson failed to log any carries in the Week 9 loss against the Raiders, the Broncos determined that they would be able to get by with only two running backs -- Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs -- this week. Fullback Andy Janovich may also see touches as necessary during the game, but assuming the team comes out of Week 10 with no injuries to those three players, Thompson could remain a regular on the inactive list.

Thompson scored on a short plunge from the fullback position. Fullback Andy Janovich would typically get such a carry, but the rookie reportedly has a brace on his hand. Thompson, despite just being promoted to the active roster, is the most experienced back on Denver's roster and could get some short-area touches as a halfback/fullback hybrid in the coming weeks.

Juwan Thompson: Promoted from practice squad
Thompson was officially promoted to the Broncos' 53-man roster Saturday, Mike Klis of The Denver Post reports.
With C.J. Anderson being placed on the IR it makes sense for the Broncos to add some running back depth to their roster. Thompson will now back up Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs in the Broncos' backfield. The 24-year-old rushed for 48 yards and caught six receptions for 51 yards in 15 games with the Broncos last season.

Juwan Thompson: Lands on Denver's practice squad
Thompson was added to Denver's practice squad Sunday.
Thompson has shown that he can produce at the NFL level, but given the Broncos' depth at running back, the 24-year-old will have to at least begin the season on as a member of the practice squad. Thompson accrued one start last season, but the three-year vet only totaled 48 yards on the year. There is a chance that Thompson will make his way onto Denver's active roster during 2016.

Broncos' Juwan Thompson: Catches four passes against Oakland
Thompson snatched four passes for 21 yards off of six targets and added eight yards on the ground on five carries.
Thompson has nine touches in each of his past two games, by far his biggest workloads of the season. Thompson's looks have come due to C.J. Anderson being sidelined with an ankle injury and he hasn't done too much with them, averaging seven yards per catch and 2.7 yards per carry. Anderson suited up as the emergency back on Sunday and appears to be on pace to re-emerge and take carries away from Thompson in the coming weeks.

Broncos' Juwan Thompson: Not expected to start
Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said that Thompson's teammate Ronnie Hillman (foot) will start Sunday's game against the Raiders, The Denver Post reports.
Hillman and C.J. Anderson (ankle) are both listed as questionable, but the former is expected to get the start, whereas the latter looks shaky to even suit up. If Anderson can't play, Thompson will be the No. 2 running back, with his role potentially including short-yardage and goal-line carries. Head coach Gary Kubiak suggested earlier in the week that Thompson might start, but it now appears only a late setback would prevent Hillman from playing.

Thompson's teammates, C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman, both missed practice again Thursday, ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports.
The duo's absence has led to added opportunities in practice this week for Thompson, with coach Gary Kubiak going so far as to acknowledge Thursday that "there's a chance" Thompson could start Sunday's game against the Raiders. That said, such a potential outcome remains speculative at this point. With that in mind, hopefully Friday's practice will help add some clarity to the team's Week 14 backfield situation, given that both Hillman and Anderson are expected to participate fully in the session.

C.J. Anderson suffered an ankle injury Sunday that held him out of the second half, which could lead to Thompson moving up the depth chart if the former has to miss any time.
