The Lions placed Maddox (foot) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Maddox will miss the rest of the 2026 season due to a left foot injury he sustained in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Bills. He'll shift his focus toward being fully healthy for the 2027 campaign, though he'll enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. With Maddox, Brian Branch (Achilles) and Kerby Joseph (knee) all sidelined, Thomas Harper and Chuck Clark will serve as Detroit's starting safeties for the time being.

Maddox will undergo season-ending surgery for a left foot injury that he sustained during the Lions' 41-31 loss to the Bills on Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Maddox was spotted wearing a boot on his left foot following Thursday's loss, and after undergoing multiple tests and imaging, season-ending surgery has been determined as the best course of action for the veteran defensive back. With both Kerby Joseph (knee) and Brian Branch (Achilles) on the reserve/PUP list and Maddox done for the year, the Lions will turn to Chuck Clark and Thomas Harper to be the starting safeties for the time being.

Maddox left the locker room on crutches and wearing a boot on his injured left foot after Thursday night's loss to the Bills, Justin Rogers of DetroitFootball.net reports.
It's not looking good for the safety/cornerback, who had to leave Thursday's 41-31 loss to the Bills during the first half. Maddox had started the first two games at strong safety for Detroit with Brian Branch (Achilles) beginning the season on the reserve/PUP list. It appears now that the Lions may have to turn to Thomas Harper to man the position.
