Top Dalton Schultz News

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Idle for preseason opener

Schultz did not play in Thursday's 27-7 preseason loss to the Chargers.

Schultz joined several starters on the sidelines Thursday, with Cade Stover leading all tight ends with 26 snaps on offense, followed by Foster Moreau (21). Although C.J. Stroud struggled at times in 2025, Schultz finished the regular season with a career-high 82 catches (on 106 targets) for 777 yards and three touchdowns across 17 games. He should be a favored target of Stroud for the upcoming season, though Schultz's target share could take a slight dip when wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) is back in the fold.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Set to lead Houston's TE corps

While Schultz remains the Texans' top tight end ahead of training camp, Jared Koch of SI.com notes that slotting beyond Schultz has yet to be determined.

That said, following the team's mandatory minicamp earlier this month, Koch suggests that at this stage a "fair order" after Schultz could go as follows: Foster Moreau, Brevin Jordan (knee) and Marlin Klein (hamstring). During the 2025 regular season, Schultz set career highs in catches (82) and targets (106) en route to logging 777 receiving yards and three TDs in 17 games. As a dependable chain-mover in Houston's offense for QB C.J. Stroud, Schultz -- who has played a full slate in each of the last two years -- will remain on the fantasy lineup radar in 2026.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Inks extension through 2027

The Texans signed Schultz (calf) to a one-year, $12.6 million contract extension through the 2027 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Schultz's contract now contains $17.6 million guaranteed after he set new career highs in targets (106) and catches (82) last season en route to 777 yards and three touchdowns. A reliable safety blanket over the middle for C.J. Stroud, Schultz should remain atop the Texans' depth chart at tight end next season.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Exits Sunday's game

Schultz was forced out of Sunday's divisional-round game against the Patriots with a calf injury.

Before his exit from the contest, Schultz caught both of his targets for 47 yards (including a 42-yarder). In his absence, Cade Stover and Harrison Bryant are available to handle Houston's tight-end duties versus New England.
