Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Officially doubtful for Week 18
Mahomes (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's contest at Denver.
Speaking to the media Friday, coach Andy Reid effectively ruled out Mahomes for Week 18 action, per Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com. Having said that, the Chiefs may not make it official until about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. In any case, Carson Wentz is set to lead Kansas City's offense this weekend, but with RB Isiah Pacheco (ribs) also sidelined and TE Travis Kelce and RB Kareem Hunt listed as doubtful (meaning they'll likely be healthy scratches), Wentz will be working without a few key skill-position players. As for Mahomes, he'll turn his focus to the divisional round on either Jan. 18 or 19.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Out for Week 18
Coach Andy Reid said Friday that Mahomes (ankle) won't play Sunday at Denver, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
Reid relayed Wednesday that Mahomes wouldn't start the Chiefs' regular-season finale, instead yielding starting QB duties to Carson Wentz in Week 18 with the No. 1 seed in the AFC locked up, per Matt McMullen of the team's official site. Mahomes also continues to deal with the residual effects of the mild high-ankle sprain that he suffered Week 15 in Cleveland, so he'll get two weeks to rest and rehab before Kansas City next takes the field in the divisional round on either Jan. 18 or 19.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Limited in practice Wednesday
Mahomes (ankle) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.
Mahomes has been managing a mild high-ankle sprain since suffering the injury in a Week 15 win over the Browns, but he's proceeded to play in both of the Chiefs' last two contests while turning in two of his best performances of the season. His listed limitations for Wednesday are likely maintenance-related more than anything and won't have any bearing on his status for Sunday's regular-season finale versus the Broncos, with head coach Andy Reid having indicated that Mahomes will be rested for the contest. With the Chiefs having clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs, Mahomes will get some extra time to heal in Week 18 before returning to action in the divisional round of the postseason. Carson Wentz is slated to draw the start at quarterback Sunday in Denver.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Won't start in Week 18
Head coach Andy Reid said that Mahomes won't start in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Broncos, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Reid confirmed that Carson Wentz will direct the offense in Week 18, with the coach noting that the decision to rest Mahomes wasn't a difficult decision with the Chiefs having clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. With Kansas City having earned a first-round bye, Mahomes' next game action won't come until the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 18 or 19. An extended break should be beneficial for Mahomes, who suffered a mild high-ankle sprain Week 15 and had played through the injury in the Chiefs' last two contests.
