  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Out until at least Week 5

Hines (knee) will open the regular season on the non-football injury list and miss a minimum of four games, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Hines suffered an ACL tear last July when he was struck by a jet ski, costing him all of the 2023 season and now part of 2024. It's unclear if he'll have a significant role once he's deemed healthy enough to play, but there's at least some chance he eventually becomes a pass-catching option and return man for the Browns this year. Hines hasn't practiced this summer and won't be eligible to play any sooner than Oct. 6 against Washington.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Progressing through recovery

Hines is making progress in recovering from the ACL injury that kept him out for the entire 2023 season, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.

Hines hasn't suited up for game action since the 2022 season, and there's still no concrete timetable for his return. But Coach Kevin Stefanski struck an optimistic tone Tuesday, saying, "He's doing well and progressing well." Even when he's at 100 percent though, he'll have to fight to earn a spot on Cleveland's running back depth chart.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Placed on NFI list

The Browns placed Hines (knee) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday.

Hines said earlier this offseason that he anticipated being ready for training camp, so it's possible he won't spend much time on the NFI list before passing his physical. The pass-catching specialist is working his way back from a left ACL tear suffered last August, and once healthy, he'll compete for a role as a return man and third-down back. Nick Chubb (knee) started camp on the active/PUP list and remains without a timetable for return, so Hines could have a real opportunity alongside Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman in the Cleveland backfield, health permitting.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Plans to be ready for camp

Hines (knee) said Tuesday he expects to be available for the start of training camp, Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland reports.

Hines underwent surgery to repair his left ACL last August, then was released by the Bills in March after missing the entire 2023 season. Assuming he's indeed healthy by the start of training camp, Hines should compete for third-down snaps in the backfield and return work on special teams. With Nick Chubb working his way back from a serious knee injury of his own and no lock to be ready for Week 1, Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman are likely to operate as Cleveland's top backs to begin training camp.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Joining Cleveland backfield

Hines (knee) is slated to sign a one-year deal with the Browns, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The report indicates that Hines' deal is worth up to $3.5 million. The 27-year-old is attempting to bounce back from a left ACL injury that he sustained last July and which cost him the entire 2023 season. When healthy, Hines should provide the Browns backfield with an experienced pass-catching/change-of-pace option while also adding utility as a kick returner.

  • Nyheim Hines: Let go by Buffalo

The Bills released Hines (knee) on Wednesday with a non-football injury designation.

Adam Schefter of ESPN previously noted that Hines, who suffered a torn ACL last July and missed the entire 2023 season, will likely be ready to take the field by training camp. Assuming he experiences no setbacks as he finishes up his recovery from knee surgery, Hines should get the chance to compete for a change-of-pace role out of the backfield with another team in 2024.
