Browns' Juan Thornhill: Placed on IR
Thornhill (calf) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Thornhill suffered the injury late in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com, who relays that head coach Kevin Stefanski stated the Virginia product does have the potential to return this season. It's a tough blow to the Browns who will now be without their starting free safety for at least the next four weeks and are dealing with multiple injuries to their defense. Ronnie Hickman is expected to step up now in Thonrhill's stead.

Thornhill (illness) returned to practice with the Browns on Monday, Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports.com reports.
Thornhill missed Saturday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Packers while recovering from an illness, though no starters participated in the game. The 28-year-old is expected to operate as Cleveland's starting free safety in 2024 and it's unclear if he'll see any action this preseason.

Thornhill had a noticeable drop-off in production from his days with the Chiefs. Both the team and the player expected more after Thornhill signed a three-year deal a year ago, and the Browns need more of his previous version this coming season. There was a nagging calf injury, and he may never have been completely healthy. Thornhill is expected to rejoin Grant Delpit (groin) on the back end of the Browns' defense.

After missing the Browns' regular-season finale and being listed as a nonparticipant at practice Tuesday, Thornhill was able to take a positive step Wednesday toward possibly suiting up for the wild-card round. He'll still likely need to manage a full practice Thursday to avoid carrying an injury designation into Friday and potentially gameday.
