Trenton Thompson: Waived by Pittsburgh
The Steelers waived Thompson (neck) on Wednesday.
Thompson appears to have recovered from the neck injury that caused him to be placed on injured reserve back in January, as he wasn't waived with an injury designation. He suited up for six contests (one start) with Pittsburgh in 2023, recording 22 tackles, three passes defensed and one interception. Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com relays that Thompson opted against undergoing offseason surgery and was able to recover from the neck injury through rest and rehab.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Moves to IR
Thompson (neck) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Thompson hasn't played since Week 15 due to the injury, and his placement on IR will effectively end his season. The 25-year-old will finish his second NFL campaign with six games played, 22 tackles (19 solo), three passes defended and an interception. Although his now certain absence will be a blow to the team's depth at secondary for the playoffs, the return of Damontae Kazee from suspension and Minkah Fitzpatrick's recovery from a knee injury should soften that blow.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Officially questionable
Thompson (neck) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game at Baltimore, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Thompson was a limited participant at practice all week, so his availability for Saturday seems close to a coin-flip proposition. If he can't go in Week 18, it could mean an uptick in reps for Miles Killebrew.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Seems to be progressing
Thompson (neck) was listed as a limited participant on the Steelers' practice estimate Tuesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Thompson missed Pittsburgh's last practice of last week ahead of Sunday's win at Seattle, so a limited practice would indicate he's moving in the right direction. It's just an estimation though, and the Steelers' official injury reports Thursday and Friday will give a better idea of whether he'll be available in Week 18.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Limited to begin Week 17 prep
Thompson (neck) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Thompson suffered a neck stinger against Indianapolis in Week 15 and sat out last Saturday's win over Cincinnati. His limited practice participation Wednesday is a step in the right direction after he logged a trio of DNPs last week, but his ability to suit up Sunday in Seattle remains uncertain. Thomas posted a season-high seven tackles against the Colts before exiting with the injury.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Won't play vs. Bengals
Thompson (neck) is listed as out for Saturday's game versus the Bengals, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Remains sidelined
Thompson (neck) was listed as a DNP on Tuesday's injury report, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Thomspon suffered a stinger in Saturday's loss to the Colts and now appears to be in jeopardy of missing the team's Week 16 matchup with the Bengals. If the San Diego State product can recover in time, he'll likely draw the start at free safety with Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) already ruled out. However, if he's unable to play, the Steelers' depth at safety will be decimated, with Miles Killebrew the only able body left at the position, with Damontae Kazee currently suspended.

Steelers' Trenton Thompson: Questionable to return Saturday
Thompson (stinger) departed Saturday's contest against Indianapolis and is questionable to return, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Damontae Kazee was ejected in the first half of the contest and Minkah Fitzpatrick has been ruled out due to a knee injury, so the Steelers are perilously thin at safety. If Thompson is unable to return, Miles Killebrew would be the team's only healthy player left at the position. Patrick Peterson has shifted over to safety to account for the shortage.
