  • Alex Kessman: Cut from practice squad

Kessman was cut from the Panthers' practice squad Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Kessman was signed on Wednesday after Zane Gonzalez (quadriceps) was placed on IR. Lirim Hajrullahu was then signed to the active roster over Kessman. With the Panthers suffering a rash of positive COVID tests Monday, the team will likely look to address more pressing needs.

  • Alex Kessman: Joins Carolina's practice squad

The Panthers signed Kessman to their practice squad Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Kessman was waived by the Giants in early December, and he'll now join Carolina's practice squad after Zane Gonzalez (quadriceps) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. While Lirim Hajrullahu was signed to the Panthers' 53-man roster Wednesday, Kessman will be available as a replacement on short notice.

  • Alex Kessman: Time in Big Apple ends

New York waived Kessman on Monday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

Signed by the Jets last week to replace struggling rookie kicker Matt Ammendola, Kessman's dismissal comes as little surprise after he missed both of his two extra-point attempts in the first half of Sunday's loss to the Eagles. The Jets decided to forgo the point-after try on their next touchdown, leaving Kessman without another chance to redeem himself. Eddy Pineiro was signed in a corresponding move and will take over as the Jets' kicker beginning with the team's Week 14 game against the Saints.

  • Jets' Alex Kessman: NFL stint might be short-lived

Kessman didn't attempt a field goal and missed both of his PAT attempts in Sunday's 33-18 loss to Philadelphia.

Kessman's NFL debut couldn't have been much worse, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Jets move on from him after just one game. His inaccuracy put a damper on the Jets' hot start offensively, as New York scored touchdowns on each of its first two drives, only to watch Kessman miss the ensuing PAT both times. The Jets didn't give him another opportunity, going for two after their third touchdown and opting not to attempt a field goal in the game.

  • Jets' Alex Kessman: Taking over as Jets' kicker

The Jets signed Kessman to their 53-man roster Saturday.

Kessman will take over kicking duties from Matt Ammendola, who was waived after converting just 13 of his 19 field-goal attempts this season, including 0-for-3 from 50-plus yards. The Jets have attempted the 11th-fewest kicks and the third-fewest extra-point attempts this season, so even if Kessman provides more stability at the position, he likely won't make for a serviceable fantasy option.

  • Alex Kessman: Signs with practice squad

Kessman signed with the Jets' practice squad Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

Kessman went undrafted out of Pitt and had signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He'll try to provide competition for Matt Ammendola who has only made 68.8 percent of his field-goal attempts this season, including going one-for-three Sunday against Miami.

  • Alex Kessman: Cut by Chargers

The Chargers cut Kessman on Monday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Kessman linked up with Los Angeles back in May, but he will now need to search for a chance elsewhere in the league. The undrafted rookie out of Pittsburgh did not handle a single kick during the Chargers' preseason opener against the Rams.

  • Chargers' Alex Kessman: Signs with Chargers as UDFA

Kessman has signed with the Chargers.

Kessman will compete with Michael Badgley and Tristan Vizcaino for the kicking job in Los Angeles. Even if he loses the competition, the undrafted rookie out of Pittsburgh could put himself on the map for kicker-needy teams if he performs well in camp and preseason.
