Niese suffered a right leg injury in the Lions' preseason game against the Commanders on Aug. 22. The offensive lineman was waived Sunday with an injury designation and went unclaimed. Niese will now spend the entirety of the 2026 regular season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement.

Niese (leg) was waived/injured by the Lions on Sunday.
Niese suffered a right leg injury in the team's preseason contest against the Commanders on Aug. 22, and he was seen on crutches after the game. The offensive lineman will now be placed on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he'll revert to season-ending injured reserve with Detroit.

Lions' Michael Niese: Suffers injury Saturday
Niese (leg) was spotted leaving the Lions' locker room in crutches after sustaining an injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Commanders, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
Niese had his right leg crushed by a defender in Saturday's contest and is feared to have suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee. The reserve center has been a versatile piece of the Lions' offensive line and will likely need to miss time with the injury.
