Hardy was expected to sign with the Eagles in July, but the team ultimately decided against bringing him on. However, after trying out for both the Broncos and Steelers over the past week, the undrafted running back has found himself back on an NFL roster. Hardy was elevated from Dallas' practice squad for three games during his 2021 rookie season, totaling four rushes for 29 yards and one touchdown over eight offensive snaps. He, along with fellow recently signed running back Stevie Scott, will likely operate as emergency options during Denver's preseason contest against the Cowboys on Saturday.

Hardy was removed from Dallas' roster in order to make room for linebacker Malik Jefferson, who was signed in a corresponding move Thursday. The undrafted running back was elevated from the Cowboys' practice squad for three games last season, finishing with four rushing attempts over eight offensive snaps. Teams will now have an opportunity to claim Hardy off waivers before he hits free agency.

Hardy failed to make the Cowboys' final 53-man roster but found a spot on the team's practice squad prior to the season. The undrafted free agent was elevated to the team's active roster three times over the final five weeks of the season and played on at least 58 percent of the Cowboys' special-teams snaps in each of these games. The running back finished his rookie campaign with four carries for 29 yards and a rushing touchdown to go along with 15 yards as a kick returner.

Hardy tested positive for the virus and wasn't elevated for Sunday's blowout win over Washington. However, the soon-to-be 24-year-old has cleared protocols and will be eligible for his third elevation of the season. Before his placement on the COVID-19 list, Hardy had been added to the active roster in each of the Cowboys' two previous games, totaling 36 special teams snaps and two offensive snaps.
