Panthers' Mitchell Evans: Back in action
Evans (ankle) participated in the Panthers' training camp activities Monday, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Evans suffered a low-ankle sprain last Tuesday and was carted off the practice field. The tight end missed a few days of practice but appears to be back in uniform and pads. Evans will continue to compete with Ja'Tavion Sanders for the No. 2 tight end role behind Tommy Tremble.

Panthers' Mitchell Evans: Diagnosed with low-ankle sprain
Evans has been diagnosed with a low ankle sprain and is considered day-to-day, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports.
The Panthers got another injury scare when Evans had to be carted off the field Tuesday, but Evans avoided a serious injury. The 23-year-old was a fifth-round pick last year and secured 19 of 25 targets for 171 yards and two touchdowns across 17 regular-season games as a rookie.

Panthers' Mitchell Evans: Suffers ankle issue
Evans (ankle), pending full evaluation, likely just suffered a rolled ankle this week, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
Evans has yet to be fully medically vetted, but it has begun to look like a minor issue for the tight end. If the preliminary evaluation is correct, Evans should be set to return to training camp shortly.

Evans caught 19 of 25 targets for 171 yards and two touchdowns and rushed once for one yard across 17 regular-season games in 2025.
Despite opening the season as the Panthers' No. 3 tight end, Evans started 10 games and played 391 offensive snaps during his rookie campaign, largely due to Carolina's frequent use of two- and three-tight-end sets. The 2025 fifth-round pick from Notre Dame was used primarily as a blocker but also held his own as a receiver, averaging 9.0 yards per reception. With Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle, IR) out for Carolina's 2025 playoff run, Evans is set to operate as the team's top backup behind Tommy Tremble. Even with Tremble and Sanders under contract for 2026 season, Evans will likely be more involved in the Panthers' offensive game plan.

Evans caught one of two targets for five yards and rushed once for one yard during Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Seahawks.
Evans led the Panthers' tight end room in targets for the second consecutive game during Sunday's loss, but it didn't translate to production. The rookie from Notre Dame has now caught 18 of 23 targets for 166 yards and two touchdowns while appearing in all 16 of Carolina's games this season. The rookie from Notre Dame paced the Panthers' tight-end corps in receptions, targets and yards during Sunday's divisional win. Evans failed to catch his lone target in Monday night's 20-9 loss to the 49ers.
The rookie from Notre Dame operated as Carolina's third-string tight end in the Week 12 loss. Prior to the Week 11 win, Evans hadn't recorded a catch since the Week 7 win over the Jets, drawing just one target during that stretch. He logged 29 offensive snaps during Sunday's win but still operated as the Panthers' No. 3 tight end, playing behind Tommy Tremble (42 snaps) and Ja'Tavion Sanders (37 snaps). Evans is likely to remain in a limited offensive role for the Week 12 matchup against the 49ers.

The tight end injured his ankle earlier in the first half, walked off under his own power and briefly went to the locker room. The injury must not have been serious, as it didn't take long for Evans to return to the contest.

Evans has an ankle injury and is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Saints, Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports.
The tight end was able to walk off the field but had to go "straight to the locker room," per Hill. Evans had one target and no catches before leaving the field. He has nine grabs for 90 yards and two scores on the year.

Panthers' Mitchell Evans: Nabs 21-yard reception
Evans played 39 of the Panthers' 67 snaps on offense and hauled in a 21-yard reception on his lone target in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Cowboys.
For the third game in a row, the rookie fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame served as Carolina's No. 2 tight end behind Tommy Tremble while usual starter Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle) was sidelined once again. Evans had come through with touchdowns in the previous two contests, and though he didn't find paydirt Sunday, his 21-yard catch was the Panthers' third-longest play of the day and helped set up a field goal in the first quarter. Despite making a bit of splash in his backup role the past three games, Evans is still likely to see his playing time take a hit if Sanders is back in action Week 7 against the Jets.
