Top Esezi Otomewo News

  • Steelers' Esezi Otomewo: Back with Pittsburgh

The Steelers re-signed Otomewo to a one-year contract Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Otomewo appeared in 12 regular-season games with Pittsburgh last season, logging nine tackles (five solo) across 173 defensive snaps and another 24 on special teams. He'll compete for a roster spot this offseason.

  • Jaguars' Esezi Otomewo: Avoids injury report

Otomewo (calf) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report.

Otomewo was inactive for Jacksonville's narrow loss to Green Bay in Week 8, but it looks like he's now returned to full health. He'll look to resume handling a depth role on the road versus Philadelphia on Sunday.

  • Jaguars' Esezi Otomewo: Will not suit up Week 8

Otomewo (calf) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against Green Bay.

A calf injury held Otomewo to a trio of limited practices this week, and he won't be able to play against the Packers. The defensive lineman has seen his role fluctuate throughout the campaign, and his best game came in Week 6 against Chicago when he notched a half-sack and played a season-high 46 percent of Jacksonville's defensive snaps.

  • Esezi Otomewo: Won't make team

Otomewo was waived by the Vikings on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Otomewo appeared in five games with Minnesota last season after the team selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 Draft. The 24-year-old missed part of camp while in concussion protocols which could have hampered his effort toward staying on board in 2023.

  • Vikings' Esezi Otomewo: Remains in concussion protocol

Otomewo was placed in concussion protocol following Saturday's preseason matchup against the Titans, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Otomewo remains in concussion protocol, but it's unclear when exactly he suffered the head injury. However, it presumably occurred during the Vikings' preseason Week 2 loss. Otomewo recorded four assisted tackles across 36 snaps (32 defensive) during the matchup against Tennessee.

  • Vikings' Esezi Otomewo: Staying in Minnesota

The Vikings selected Otomewo in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 165th overall.

A massive defensive end that went to college at Minnesota, Otomewo measures in at 6-foot-5, 282 pounds, though he didn't test in the pre-draft process due to a knee injury. Otemewo has room to improve as a pass rusher, as he registered just 7.5 sacks through four seasons with the Gophers. He's a quick, smart player that uses his tools to his advantage, and the Vikings have enough pass rushers that he won't need to contribute in that area right away.
