Elijah Mitchell: Released by New England
The Patriots released Mitchell from the practice squad Wednesday.
Mitchell signed to New England's practice squad in late December as a possible depth option for TreVeyon Henderson, who was questionable to play with a concussion. The five-year pro from Louisiana is four years removed from his best season in 2021, when he rushed the ball 207 times for 963 yards and five touchdowns, while also catching the ball 19 times for 137 yards and one touchdown.

Elijah Mitchell: Signs with New England
The Patriots signed Mitchell to the practice squad Tuesday.
Mitchell was waived by the Chiefs last Saturday and has already found a new home. The running back has a chance to be elevated for Week 17 against the Jets due to the Patriots' starting back TreVeyon Henderson (concussion) potentially not clearing the league's five-step concussion protocol in time for Sunday's game.

Elijah Mitchell: Out in Kansas City
Mitchell was waived by the Chiefs on Saturday.
The 27-year-old from Louisiana signed a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million with the Chiefs this past offseason but appeared in just one game prior to being waived. Mitchell has played in 28 regular-season games since being drafted in 2021, rushing for 1,523 yards and nine touchdowns. In a corresponding move, Kansas City signed Dameon Pierce to its active roster Saturday.

Chiefs' Elijah Mitchell: Not playing Week 14
Mitchell (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.
Mitchell will be a healthy scratch for a third consecutive game, as the Chiefs will go with a three-man backfield Sunday in Kareem Hunt, Isiah Pacheco and Brashard Smith. Mitchell's next opportunity to play is Week 15 against the Chargers on Sunday, Dec. 14, though he's unlikely to play unless Hunt, Pacheco or Smith miss time.

Chiefs' Elijah Mitchell: Healthy scratch again
Mitchell (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Cowboys, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Mitchell got a chance to make his season debut Week 11 versus Denver but reverted to being a healthy scratch Week 12. With Isiah Pacheco now back in action, Mitchell quietly falls back to No. 4 on Kansas City's backfield depth chart. In his lone regular-season appearance thus far, Mitchell played seven offensive snaps and failed to haul in his only target.

Chiefs' Elijah Mitchell: Inactive Sunday
Mitchell (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Colts, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
The running back made his season debut last Sunday against the Broncos but only played on seven of 70 offensive snaps. Mitchell is a healthy scratch even with Isiah Pacheco still out due to a knee issue. Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith got most of Kansas City's offensive snaps at the running back spot a week ago.

Chiefs' Elijah Mitchell: Nonfactor in season debut
Mitchell failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 22-19 loss to the Broncos.
Mitchell appeared in his first game of the season Sunday, operating as the No. 3 running back behind Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith while Isiah Pacheco (knee) was inactive for the contest. The veteran played just seven of the Chiefs' 70 offensive snaps, while Hunt and Smith handled 56 and 12 snaps, respectively. Mitchell remains far off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 12 matchup against the Colts.

Chiefs' Elijah Mitchell: Active versus Denver
Mitchell is active for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
With Isiah Pacheco (knee) inactive, Brashard Smith and Mitchell are on hand to work behind Kareem Hunt on Sunday. Mitchell is thus slated to make his season debut with the Chiefs, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire was not elevated from the team's practice squad ahead of Week 11 action.
