Houston was waived with an injury designation Monday, seemingly after suffering an undisclosed injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans. The Western Illinois product will now miss the 2024 campaign unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.

The Giants waived/injured Houston (undisclosed) on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Houston had been dealing with a hand injury since the beginning of August, but he was able to suit up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Texans. It's unclear whether he's currently dealing with the same injury or a separate one, but he will now go on waivers. If Houston goes unclaimed, then he would revert to the Giants' injured reserve and be forced to miss all of 2024 unless the two sides reach an agreement on an injury settlement.

Houston did not participate in Tuesday's joint practice with the Lions due to a hand injury, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
The severity of the injury isn't clear, but it puts Houston's availability for the Giants' first preseason game against the Lions on Thursday in jeopardy. His only playing time in the NFL came with the Cowboys in 2022, when he caught two passes for 16 yards in two regular-season games. Houston spent all of 2023 on the Giants' practice squad and signed a reserve/future contract with Big Blue in January in the hopes that he can catch onto the 53-man roster at the conclusion of training camp.

The Giants signed Houston to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Houston had an excellent senior season for Western Illinois in 2022, recording 1,015 yards and six touchdowns on 90 catches and adding 63 yards and two scores on five carries. The wideout's lone NFL regular-season action to date came in 2022, when he caught two passes on six targets for 16 yards over two games with Dallas. Houston spent most of last season on the Giants' practice squad and was elevated in Week 17 but didn't see any action. With the reserve/future contract, he'll have a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp this summer.

Cowboys' Dennis Houston: Sticks with Dallas
Dallas signed Houston to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Houston signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Western Illinois last spring and made Dallas' initial 53-man roster at the conclusion of the preseason. He caught two of five targets for 16 yards in a Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay but failed to secure his lone target in Week 2 and was then waived ahead of Michael Gallup's (ankle) season debut. After clearing waivers, Houston latched on with the Cowboys' practice squad and spent the remainder of the campaign there. With his new deal, Houston will be able to stick around the organization and look to stake a more permanent claim to a roster spot in 2023.

Houston initially joined Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Western Illinois and caught two of five passes for 16 yards in Week 1. However, the 23-year-old failed to haul in his lone target while playing 32 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps in Week 2 and was waived by the team Tuesday. The Tampa Bay secondary focused its attention on CeeDee Lamb (2-29-0 on a team-high 11 targets), but Houston wasn't able to do much against lesser coverage. The undrafted rookie earned a spot on the roster with a strong offseason, but with Dak Prescott (hand) now set to miss multiple weeks and Cooper Rush taking over under center, the entire Cowboys passing game figures to take a big step back. Houston also will face additional competition for snaps and targets once Michael Gallup (knee) is cleared to play, something that could happen as soon as Week 2 against the Bengals.
