BJ Thompson: Waived from NFI list
Thompson (chest) was waived from the reserve/non-football illness list with an injury settlement Friday, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
Thompson suffered a cardiac arrest in June of 2024 and hasn't played or practiced since then. With this injury settlement, Thompson -- a 2023 fifth-round pick -- will continue to focus on his rehab and will be free to sign with another team once he's healthy.

BJ Thompson: Cut by KC, likely to return
The Chiefs waived Thompson (chest) with a non-football illness designation Saturday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
Thompson was let go along with linebacker Blake Lynch in order to clear space for incoming undrafted free agents. However, Thompson is expected to clear waivers, in which case he'll return to the Chiefs on a reserve list, per Derrick. Thompson had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a team meeting last June and spent the campaign on the reserve/non-football illness list. He's continuing to rehab, and the Chiefs remain committed to helping him recover, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Chiefs' BJ Thompson: Shifts to NFI list
Kansas City placed Thompson (undisclosed) on the active/non-football injury list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Thompson being placed on the NFI list to begin training camp isn't surprising, as he suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest during a team meeting back in June. Kansas City will doubtless take every precaution with Thompson's recovery as he works his way back onto the practice field. He'll be eligible to return from the NFI list at any point during training camp or the preseason, once cleared to practice.

Chiefs' BJ Thompson: Released from hospital
Thompson (undisclosed) was released from the hospital Monday, Alex Andrejev and Nate Taylor of The Athletic report.
Thompson is now resting at home four days after having suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting at team facilities. The Chiefs will surely take a cautious approach to the 27-year-old's recovery. When ready to retake the field, Thompson will be in position to compete for a depth role at edge rusher while also potentially contributing on special teams.

Chiefs' BJ Thompson: Joining Super Bowl champs in KC
The Chiefs selected Thompson in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 166th overall.
Thompson began his college career at Baylor way back in 2017 before ultimately finding his footing at Stephen F. Austin. He didn't receive a combine invite, but the pro day allowed Thompson to showcase some intriguing traits, including long arms (34.63-inches) and 4.58 speed at 243 pounds. He's not expected to be an asset against the run, but Thompson is an athletic pass rusher who can have a situational role.
