There is no word on the nature of Mukuamu's injury, nor how long he is expected to be sidelined. Mukuamu (hamstring) recorded two tackles (one solo) in Saturday's 28-23 exhibition loss to the Jaguars.
Mukuamu had been sidelined earlier in camp due to a hamstring issue, but his participation in the Cowboys' preseason opener implies he has recovered. The strong safety saw 23 defensive snaps (28 percent) in the contest. He is attempting to secure a role backing up Jayron Kearse at strong safety this season.

Cowboys' Israel Mukuamu: Out indefinitely
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Thursday that Mukuamu (hamstring) is dealing with a multiple-week injury, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
The 2021 sixth-round pick's injury is worse than originally expected after he left Wednesday's practice as a precautionary measure with a sore hamstring. Last year, the South Carolina product appeared in 15 games and made three starts for Dallas, totaling 17 tackles and one pass breakup. Once Mukuamu is healthy, he will compete for the starting strong safety position with veterans Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse.

Cowboys' Israel Mukuamu: Dealing with sore hamstring
Mukuamu suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday's training camp practice and will undergo further evaluation, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Mukuamu ended the 2021 season on the Cowboys' injured reserve list with a hamstring injury. The 2021 sixth-round pick played four games during his rookie season, but he never recorded a statistic over 19 defensive and 58 special-teams snaps. While Mukuamu filled in with the starting defense during team drills, veterans Jayron Kearse and Malik Hooker eventually lined up as the first-team safeties during walkthrough sessions June 9.
