  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Another TD in Week 2 win

Nailor secured three of four targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' 23-17 win over the 49ers on Sunday.

Nailor finished second in receiving yards to Justin Jefferson (quadriceps) and recorded his second touchdown in as many weeks to open the campaign on a 10-yard grab just past the midway point of the third quarter. Nailor had a chance for additional opportunity with Jordan Addison (ankle) missing the contest altogether and Jefferson exiting late in the third quarter, and if at least one is out for a Week 3 home showdown against the Texans, he could serve as the No. 2 wideout for Sam Darnold in what could be a high-scoring contest.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Scores TD in season opener

Nailor had one reception (on one target) for a 21-yard touchdown in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Nailor played just 26 of 55 snaps on offense and was out-snapped by Brandon Powell (30 snaps) even though he had clearly won the No. 3 receiver role in the preseason. The Vikings may have capped Nailor's snaps after he had a sore ankle that limited him in practice last week. If he's fully healthy, he could have a much larger role in the offense next week against the 49ers if Jordan Addison misses time with an ankle injury.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Good to go

Nailor (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at the Giants.

Nailor followed the same practice pattern as Jordan Addison (ankle), closing out the week with a full session after being limited Wednesday and Thursday. Nailor is expected to open the season as Minnesota's No. 3 wide receiver, but it's not clear exactly what that will mean in terms of his quantity of snaps and targets. Last year, K.J. Osborn handled the No. 3 WR role in coach Kevin O'Connell's offense and averaged just 4.7 targets per game even though the Vikings averaged 37.1 pass attempts and Justin Jefferson missed a large chunk of the season.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Limited again Thursday

Nailor (ankle) practiced on a limited basis Thursday.

The Vikings' Week 1 injury report includes just two players, but the other one aside from Nailor is Jordan Addison (ankle). Both wide receivers have operated with caps on their practice reps Wednesday and Thursday, but coach Kevin O'Connell has acknowledged that Nailor is a few days behind Addison in his recovery, per Alec Lewis of The Athletic. Friday's report may provide clarity into whether one or both of them is on track to suit up Sunday at the Giants.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Officially limited Wednesday

Nailor (ankle) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.

Mere hours after head coach Kevin O'Connell told Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Nailor may have a cap on his reps Wednesday due to an ankle injury, the third-year receiver upheld that comment. Both Jordan Addison (ankle) and Nailor are in the same boat this week, so their activity levels will be monitored over the next two days to get a sense of their respective chances of playing in Sunday's season opener at the Giants. Nailor is entering the 2024 campaign as the Vikings' No. 3 wideout behind Justin Jefferson and Addison, but in 21 career appearances so far, he's managed just 12 catches (on 19 targets) for 228 yards and one touchdown.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Dealing with ankle injury

Nailor is dealing with an ankle injury and may have practice limitations this week, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell suggested Wednesday that he won't have a good idea until later in the week about the wideout's availability for Sunday's season opener at the Giants. After missing most of last season with hamstring injuries and then a concussion, Nailor seemingly won Minnesota's No. 3 receiver job this summer, emerging ahead of Brandon Powell, Trishton Jackson and Trent Sherfield. The good news for Minnesota is that O'Connell sounded more optimistic about the status of No. 2 receiver Jordan Addison, who has been bothered by an ankle sprain since mid-August.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Another strong preseason game

Nailor had one reception for 31 yards on two targets in Saturday's preseason win over Cleveland.

Nailor started at outside receiver and played just 19 snaps as the Vikings rested most of their starting offense. He built upon an impressive first preseason game and has a strong hold on the No. 3 receiver job at this point in the preseason over Brandon Powell. The No. 3 receiver role could have significant fantasy value with tight end T.J. Hockenson set to miss several games coming back from a torn ACL and Jordan Addison facing a potential suspension for a DUI charge.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Strong showing in first preseason game

Nailor had three receptions for 63 yards on four targets in Saturday's preseason win over Las Vegas.

Nailor started at wide receiver due to Justin Jefferson sitting out the game. The former has drawn raves in camp for his play and backed it up with a strong performance. His only blemish was being unable to bring in a catchable ball in the end zone in traffic on fourth-and-goal. Brandon Powell didn't have a target or reception in the game. Nailor looks like he has a large lead for the No. 3 receiver role, which could have significant fantasy value due to tight end T.J. Hockenson set to miss several games coming back from January surgery for a torn ACL and Jordan Addison facing a potential suspension for a DUI charge.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Listed as co-starter at No. 3 WR

Nailor and Brandon Powell are both listed as the No. 3 receiver for the Vikings on the team's first unofficial depth chart of the preseason. In 11 personnel groupings this summer, Nailor has been the primary No. 3 receiver, The Athletic reports.

Nailor has had a strong camp and is seen by most observers as having the job to lose at this point. However, it's still early in camp as preseason games begin. Whoever wins the role could have significant fantasy value early in the season with the Vikings possibly utilizing a third receiver more than in the recent past with tight end T.J. Hockenson likely to miss several games in coming back from January surgery for a torn ACL. Also, No. 2 wideout Jordan Addison is facing a potential suspension.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Could be favorite for No. 3 WR role

Nailor is likely the internal favorite to be Minnesota's No. 3 receiver at this stage of training camp, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

It's early in the competition for the third receiver role, but it was thought Brandon Powell had a lead for the job at the start of training camp. It's also possible the Vikings bring in another veteran to compete for the sport. Nailor showed improvement in a limited sample size in his third season last year (12 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown on 19 targets) and has drawn praise early in camp, but the competition is wide open against Powell and Trent Sherfield. Whoever wins the gig could get a significant number of targets early in the season with tight end T.J. Hockenson likely to miss several games in coming back from January surgery for a torn ACL.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Competing for No. 3 role

Nailor was the first player Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell mentioned when recently asked about the No. 3 receiver role, ESPN's Kevin Seifert reports.

Nailor, Brandon Powell and Trent Sherfield look like the top candidates for the job after Minnesota opted against bringing in a clear replacement for former No. 3 receiver K.J. Osborn (now with the Patriots). A 2022 sixth-round pick, Nailor has run just 77 routes through two seasons but has made the most of his limited opportunities with 12 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown on 19 targets. Hamstring and head injuries limited him to six games last year, and he took 67 of his 94 offensive snaps for the season during a Week 10 win over New Orleans. Nailor has enjoyed better health this offseason, apart from missing a few minicamp practices with an illness.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Dealing with illness

Nailor missed the first two days of Minnesota's mandatory minicamp with an illness, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

According to Lewis, Nailor was a standout performer during the first few days of OTAs, but an illness is now compromising his ability to carry that momentum into minicamp. The 25-year-old wide receiver appeared in just six games for Minnesota last season, catching three of his six targets for 29 yards while playing 94 total offensive snaps. Once Nailor moves past the illness, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the Minnesota wideout room behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

  • Vikings' Jalen Nailor: Moves to IR

Nailor (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Nailor had already been ruled out for the Vikings' regular-season finale, but he'll be forced to miss the team's next four games after going on IR. Unless Minnesota is able to make it to the Super Bowl, the second-year wideout's season is over. Nailor has struggled to stay on the field this year, appearing in just six games and catching three passes for 29 yards.
