Raiders' Austin Walter: Lands on injured reserve
Walter (undisclosed) was placed on IR on Thursday.
Walter was working to earn a depth role in the Raiders' backfield after joining the team on a reserve/future deal in January. The 26-year-old hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2021 with the Jets, and now he'll likely have to wait a while longer. Unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team, Walter will be forced to miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign.

Raiders' Austin Walter: Extended new deal by Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Walter to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Walter first joined up with Las Vegas in July and spent the preseason with the team. However, the 5-foot-8 running back never managed to crack the team's final 53-man roster, as he spent the entirety of the 2022 campaign on the practice squad. Walter logged 26 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown over four games with the Jets in 2021, and he'll look to compete for an active roster spot heading into the 2023 season.

Austin Walter: Inks deal with practice squad
The Raiders signed Walter to their practice squad Wednesday.
Walter was waived by the Raiders on Tuesday as part of the team's final roster cuts, but he'll join the organization's practice squad a day later. The 26-year-old has appeared in nine games between the Giants, 49ers and Jets over the last three seasons.

Walter rushed 14 times for 49 yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 28-24 loss to Tampa Bay.
Walter led the team in carries after Michael Carter (concussion) exited early, but Ty Johnson got the nod at the goal line in the third quarter and delivered a one-yard touchdown. If neither Carter nor Tevin Coleman (illness) plays in Week 18 against the Bills, Walter should retain a prominent role on the ground, though finding running room won't be easy against a stout Buffalo front.

Walter barely saw the field, as Michael Carter (ankle) and Tevin Coleman split work in the Jets' backfield. As long as New York's top two running backs stay healthy, there won't be much work to go around for Walter, but each of the top two options has dealt with injuries this season; Carter just came off IR this week and Coleman missed last week's game due to a concussion.
