  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Gets 20 touches in Week 2 loss

Gibbs rushed 13 times for 84 yards and caught all seven of his targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Buccaneers.

Gibbs kept Detroit's hopes alive with a 23-yard run to convert on 4th-and-1 with 1:23 remaining, but he was tackled short of the line to gain on a fourth-down catch 30 seconds later. Gibbs out-gained David Montgomery by 49 yards on the ground and also got seven of the 12 targets among Lions running backs (four for Montgomery, one for Sione Vaki), but Montgomery got the opportunity to punch in a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and capitalized on it. Despite being Detroit's 1B option by the goal line, Gibbs should remain heavily involved Week 3 against the Cardinals thanks to his versatility and explosiveness.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Scores TD in Week 1 win

Gibbs rushed 11 times for 40 yards and a touchdown while catching four of six targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 26-20 overtime win over the Rams.

Gibbs was outproduced on the ground by David Montgomery (17 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown), but the second-year running back got a couple goal-line carries late in the first half and made the most of the opportunity, punching in a one-yard touchdown at the two-minute warning. It was Gibbs' 11th rushing touchdown in 16 career regular-season games. Gibbs also tied for second on the team in targets, so he was involved both on the ground and through the air as usual. With no sign of the hamstring injury that sidelined him in August, Gibbs should maintain a prominent role in Week 2 against the Buccaneers.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Avoids injury report

Gibbs (hamstring) wasn't listed on the Lions' injury report Wednesday.

Although the Lions didn't hold a session Wednesday, Gibbs wouldn't have been inhibited in his on-field work if the team had done so. As a result, he's good to go for Sunday's contest against the Rams after sustaining a hamstring injury in an Aug. 12 practice. Gibbs again will split Detroit's backfield with David Montgomery in 2024, which amounted to 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns on 232 touches in 15 games in 2023.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Feels nearly 100 percent

Gibbs (hamstring) said Tuesday he feels almost 100 percent healthy ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Rams, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.

Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Gibbs isn't a player whose status concerns him for Week 1, so it sounds like the star running back is fully expected to be available Sunday. In the event that Gibbs feels anything less than 100 percent healthy by the end of the practice week, though, there will be a possibility that the Lions lean a bit more heavily on David Montgomery versus Los Angeles. Gibbs said he feels "more confident overall" heading into Year 2, and even at less than full health he offers high upside as one of the most explosive backfield weapons in the league.

  • Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: No concerns for Week 1

Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Gibbs (hamstring) is not a player whose injury status is a concern for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Rams, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Campbell named Ifeatu Melifonwu (undisclosed) as the only player the Lions are significantly concerned about for Week 1, meaning both Gibbs and standout TE Sam LaPorta (hamstring) should be good for the season opener. Both Gibbs and LaPorta resumed practicing last week after missing much of training camp due to hamstring injuries. While it doesn't sound like Gibbs is in any real danger of missing Week 1, it's still possible that Detroit could opt to lean on backfield mate David Montgomery a bit more until the hamstring issue is further in the rearview.
