Gosder Cherilus: Contemplating retirement
Cherilus, an unrestricted free agent, is contemplating retirement, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Cherilus hasn't formally decided to retire, but he reportedly isn't looking for a new contract this offseason either. The Lions' first-round selection back in 2008, the 32-year-old veteran has played in 132 games across the past nine seasons and was regarded as an above-average offensive lineman during his five years in Detroit. However, his performance largely declined thereafter, to the point that he spent this past season in Tampa Bay as a mere backup. While he seems intent on sitting out at least the 2017 campaign, a return for the 2018 season technically remains in the picture.
