Chargers' Nick Novak: Intends to play in 2018
Novak (back) has recovered from injuries that resulted in his ending the 2017 season on Injured Reserve and he intends to play in 2018, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
Novak was placed on IR in Week 14 after sitting out a few weeks prior to that. He's not currently under contract for 2018 and will likely be looking at a near minimum deal if he does sign with a team.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Could return to Chargers
Chargers general manager Tom Telesco didn't rule out retaining Novak (back) for the 2018 season, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com reports.
Novak, one of four kickers the Chargers trotted out during 2017, was placed on injured reserve in Week 13 after suffering a recurring back issue. While the team did sign Roberto Aguayo to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, it appears as though Novak could still be a part of a competition with Aguayo and Nick Rose during training camp. The 36-year-old made nine of his 13 field-goal attempts in seven games this season.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Lands on IR
The Chargers placed Novak (back) on injured reserve Saturday, Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Novak had an up-and-down week of practice and was listed as questionable for Week 13, but apparently longer-term back issues were present, which resulted in the Chargers shuttering him for the season. Travis Coons was signed to the practice squad earlier this week and promoted to the Chargers' 53-man roster Saturday to serve as the team's kicker, at least for Sunday's game against the Browns.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Deemed questionable for Sunday
Novak (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns.
Novak seemed to be in the clear for Week 13 after practicing fully Thursday, but his limited practice Friday suggests his back issues may not have completely gone away. As a safeguard against a potential Novak absence, the Chargers signed Travis Coons to the practice squad earlier this week. If Coons is promoted to the 53-man roster by the 4 p.m. EDT deadline Saturday, it would represent a strong indication that Novak won't be available Sunday.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Puts in full practice
Novak (back) practiced fully Thursday.
With Novak upgrading from a limited session Wednesday, it appears he's in little danger of missing Sunday's game against the Browns, despite the Chargers' decision to import another kicker into the organization by signing Travis Coons to the practice squad. Unless Coons is a late addition to the 53-man roster prior to Saturday's deadline for teams to make Week 13 transactions, look for Novak to handle both kickoffs and placekicking responsibilities for Los Angeles.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Limited at practice Wednesday
Novak (back) was was limited at practice Wednesday.
Per Ricky Henne of the Chargers' official site, the plan is for Novak to kick him more Thursday before the team sees where he is on the health front. In order to have an insurance option handy in the event Novak is unable to play Sunday against the Browns, the Chargers have signed fellow kicker Travis Coons to their practice squad this week.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Expected to kick in Week 13
Novak (back) is expected to kick for the Chargers in Sunday's game against the Browns barring a setback in practice this week, a source informed Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
In preparation of a potential Novak absence, the Chargers worked out kickers Tuesday, ultimately signing Travis Coons to the practice squad Wednesday. That leaves Coons in line to assume kicking duties in Week 13 should Novak miss the contest, but initial expectations are that the incumbent kicker will be able to shake off the back injury in advance of Sunday's contest. Novak was deemed day-to-day after sustaining the injury in the Thanksgiving Day win over the Cowboys, during which he missed one of two field-goal tries and his lone extra-point attempt before being replaced by punter Drew Kaser.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Labeled day-to-day
Novak (back) is considered day-to-day heading into Sunday's matchup with the Browns, Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Novak's back acted up in the first quarter of the Chargers' Thanksgiving Day win over the Cowboys, shortly after he pushed a 35-yard field-goal attempt wide right. After receiving a cortisone shot in the locker room to address the pain, Novak reentered the contest and made a 22-yard field goal, but he was shut down after pulling an extra point to the left. Punter Drew Kaser handled placekicking duties the rest of the day and made only one of three extra-point attempts, so the Chargers will have to bring in an external option if Novak is unable to kick by the time the Week 13 matchup arrives. Wang notes that it's likely that the Chargers will try out some kickers Tuesday, though the team probably won't sign any of them until Novak is formally ruled out for the game.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Gets vote of confidence
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said Novak, who is nursing a back issue, would remain the team's kicker in the Week 13 matchup with the Browns if healthy enough to play, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Novak underwent examinations on his back in the locker room after missing a 35-yard field-goal attempt early in Thursday's win over the Cowboys, but was ultimately cleared to return to the contest, drilling a chip-shot field goal from 22 yards before missing an extra-point try later on. With five missed kicks in the Chargers' last six games, Novak hasn't been as reliable as the team hoped, but it appears he'll have a little bit more leash before the team considers going in a different direction.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Returns to Thursday's game
Novak (back) returned to Thursday's contest in Dallas, Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
At the end of the Chargers' first drive of the game, Novak missed a 35-yard field goal wide right and went to the locker room for some time to have his back examined. While testing was performed, head coach Anthony Lynn opted to go for it on fourth and 13 in the red zone on the next drive rather than send out punter (and emergency kicker) Drew Kaser for the attempt. Finally, Novak returned to the sideline, kicked into the net and culminated a late second-quarter possession with a success from 22 yards.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Aggravates back injury
Novak is questionable to return to Thursday's game at Dallas due to a back injury.
Novak's practice reps weren't impacted this week, but he was listed on the injury report with a back concern each day. After missing a field goal at the end of the Chargers' first possession, he was in visible pain on the sideline and eventually went to the locker room. With an aggravation of the back ailment likely, he'll hand off kicking duties to punter Drew Kaser.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Monster game in blowout win
Novak made four of his five field-goal attempts, and all six of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 54-24 win over the Bills.
Novak's one miss came in the first quarter when he shanked a 46-yard attempt wide right following the second of the Bills' five first-half interceptions. The litany of turnovers boosted Novak's fantasy line immensely, given the 36-year-old had not attempted multiple field goals in a game since Week 6.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Drills 50-yard field goal
Novak connected on his lone field-goal try and made both of his extra-point attempts in the 20-17 overtime loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
Novak managed to drill his 50-yard field-goal attempt Sunday after missing from a similar distance in Week 8 against the Patriots. However, given the Chargers' recent offensive struggles, Novak hasn't seen nearly enough opportunities to warrant fantasy relevance at this juncture of the season.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Misses only field-goal attempt
Novak (ankle) missed his only field-goal attempt Sunday, but did connect on his lone extra-point try during the Chargers' 21-13 loss to the Patriots.
Novak, who was limited at practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, failed to generate enough leg for his 51-yard field-goal attempt early in the first quarter. Given Novak's career long is 53 yards, and the blustery conditions that enveloped Gillette Stadium, it wasn't exactly a surprise to see the veteran kicker miss what wound up being his only field-goal attempt of the afternoon. Novak and the Chargers will have a bye week before taking on the Jaguars in Week 10.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Returns to full practice
Novak (ankle) is no longer listed on the Chargers' Week 8 injury report after practicing fully Friday.
Novak has made three of four field-goal attempts in three games with the Chargers to date, recording 17 points over that span. Now that he's cleared to play Sunday against the Patriots, he's an option for those scrambling for a kicker in a bye-heavy week.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Bothered by minor ankle injury
Novak was limited at Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury.
Per Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times, Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said Novak will be fine for Sunday's game in New England. The team likely is just managing the kicker's practice workload to avoid putting any extra stress on his ankle. The injury could be viewed as more of a concern if Novak isn't upgraded to a full practice participant by the end of the week.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Makes all three extra-point attempts
Novak made all three of his extra-point attempts in the 21-0 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
Novak appeared to get slightly dinged up during a kickoff in the fourth quarter, but Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times noted the veteran kicker was able to warm up on the sidelines afterwards. Given no news has emanated from the Chargers regarding the apparent injury, assume Novak should be good to go next week against the Patriots.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Makes game-winner
Novak missed one field goal, but connected on the game-winning 32-yard attempt, and also made both of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Raiders.
The missed field goal came after the Chargers intercepted quarterback Derek Carr on his very first throw of the game, with the ensuing drive yielding no yards and a 48-yard shank to the right. Novak made up for the miss by connecting on the 32-yard game-winning field goal, earning positive praise from head coach Anthony Lynn after a season mired by special teams miscues.

Chargers' Nick Novak: Perfect game Sunday
Novak put together a perfect debut performance in Sunday's 27-22 win over the Giants, making both field-goal attempts as well as all three extra points.
Novak was signed to replace undrafted free agent Younghoe Koo last week, and promptly paid dividends Sunday. Given Novak has made 82.8 percent of his field-goal attempts in his career, he might wind up being an intriguing fantasy asset given the Chargers' high-octane offense.
