Zach Strief: Officially retires from football
Strief announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday.
Strief has officially called it quits on his NFL career after being taken in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. He spent his entire 12-year career with New Orleans, appearing in 158 regular-season games with 93 starts, not to mention an additional 10 postseason contests. He served as an offensive captain five times in total and retires with a piece of hardware in the form of a Super Bowl XLIV championship ring.

Saints' Zach Strief: Expected to retire
Strief (knee) is expected to retire, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Though Strief has not publicly announced his decision to retire, it's not expected that he'll return for a 13th campaign. He ended up on injured reserve after just two weeks in 2017 and has battled through numerous minor injuries throughout his career. Ryan Ramczyk, the Saints' first-round pick last year, will continue to hold down the fort at left tackle going forward.

Saints' Zach Strief: Pondering retirement
Strief (knee) indicated Tuesday that he's considering retirement after undergoing season-ending surgery in November to repair his ACL and MCL, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports. "As much time as you have [to think about retirement], the finality of a season always kind of brings with it new feelings and different feelings," Strief said. "So I think it's always something that you kind of take a couple weeks and get away from it completely and then make that decision."
Coming off one of his best seasons in 2016, Strief was limited to just two appearances during the past season before landing on injured reserve. The 34-year-old right tackle, who has spent his entire 12-year career in New Orleans, said he believes he can come back and be physically ready to play in 2018, but it's unclear if he's mentally prepared for the rigors of another NFL campaign. In the event Strief does decide to call it quits, the Saints are well positioned to replace him after rookie first-round pick Ryan Ramczyk performed admirably in the veteran's stead.

Strief (knee) will not return off injured reserve this season after having surgery to repair his ACL and MCL, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.
Strief was placed on injured reserve in early October with the hopes of returning by avoiding surgery, but that ended up not being possible. Now facing a recovery from a torn ACL and MCL at age 34, Strief's NFL future is certainly in doubt.

Saints' Zach Strief: Putting off surgery on knee
Strief (knee) said he hopes to avoid surgery to address a sprained MCL and thinks he'll be able to return from injured reserve at some point in December, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.
Strief, the Saints' starting right tackle, injured his knee in Week 4 and has since been replaced by rookie first-round pick Ryan Ramczyk. It's likely that Ramczyk will be the team's long-term answer at that position, but Strief, an 11-year veteran, is still optimistic about returning to the field in what could be the final season of his career. The Saints will monitor his progress in the weeks to come before discerning whether or not a return from IR is feasible before the year is out.
